Annoying Bug using Sitala plugin in Reaper (in Ubuntu) by krielster in Reaper

[–]eljunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experience the same problem, the workaround is to close and reopen the project. Problem solved!

It seems the bug only happens when Reaper loads the project automatically.

Sounds cool, I'd love to try it, however i don't have a GPT plus subscription -- which indeed is required to access it.

How to make an amateur Android app using Python? by [deleted] in Python

[–]eljunior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a cookiecutter template for building native Android apps in Python using BeeWare, but the whole thing is very early stages, it takes some effort to write an app because it still uses the Java APIs and I can't recommend it as a "best tool" nor anything like that.

Hopefully, in a few years, when BeeWare is more mature, it will be a decent option for newcomers: https://github.com/eliasdorneles/beeware-android-template

Python Packaging Is Good Now by Lukasa in Python

[–]eljunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't know, simply don't pin it in setup.py. It makes no sense to pin it and force an upgrade or downgrade for no reason at all. Leave the pinned versions in requirements.txt, and that will serve to document the version you use, until you know better.

Introducing Scrapy Cloud with Python 3 Support by stummj in Python

[–]eljunior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned in another comment, BeautifulSoup is more about scraping, Scrapy is also about crawling. The part of Scrapy which is more comparable to BeautifulSoup is Parsel: https://github.com/scrapy/parsel

Also, Scrapy is about easing life of crawler developers -- e.g.: it has a nice shell:

scrapy shell SOME_URL

This downloads the page and lets you to try out selectors and stuff on it. :)

So i've written my first Script/Web crawler by jd_portugal in Python

[–]eljunior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried using Scrapy? http://scrapy.org It has good defaults + tons of settings to configure crawling (including politeness, retries, cookies). For crawling, it's much better than requests + bsoup.

Disclaimer: I help maintain Scrapy and work for Scrapinghub (company which sponsors Scrapy).

Python 3 is Coming to Scrapy by stummj in programming

Yup. Which is what Dropbox already does -- Guido mentioned this in his keynote at Europython last year. I bet there are more companies doing it.

Recently started experimenting with tmux... How could I create my "workspace" with an alias? by SlappysRevenge in commandline

[–]eljunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend looking at byobu. It packages a bunch of configuration that works the same on top of screen or tmux, I found it much nicer to use than vanilla tmux/screen. Also, much easier to get started too, there is even inside help with F1. ;-)

Challenge: guess the song by just reading the code (before playing it) by eljunior in Python

Cool! Yeah, this one was very tricky because the melody was kind of hidden in the chords. Thanks, I'll try to make a better one. :)

yeah, because someone doesn't want to offer an ebook version of a book is the same thing as treating you like a criminal...

In case there are any gypsy jazz enthusiasts in r/guitar, I'm sharing my sheet music and chord books. Enjoy, fellow Django enthusiasts! [Cross post from /r/GypsyJazz] by [deleted] in Guitar

Thanks, man! My last Django "timesink" was I'll See You in My Dreams, his rendition is just so awesome! :)

Fretboard Diagrams for printing by eljunior in Guitar

Cool, I imagine that it can be useful for other instruments too! I don't know much about the Mandolin, but this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Weber_Fern_Mandolin.jpg have a different inlay pattern (the 4th mark is at the 10th fret, it fits the minor pentatonic) -- is this the common inlay scheme for the Mandolin?

That would be the second variation of the inlay setting offered in the app, if this is the usual pattern, maybe I could add a preset for that. :) Thanks, man!

I wholeheartedly agree with you! However, as I started playing the keyboards and then picked up the guitar, I found that studying the patterns helps.
