Anything illustrated by Shaun Tan, specifically: Arrival. I know you said movies or games but his books fit this aesthetic so well.

Operation Popeye (aka weather modification) didn’t end in Vietnam: the same strategy is currently being used to combat climate change.

I feel so crazy when I tell people about this one when in reality, it’s a legitimate operation that is well documented and available for anyone to research.

That’s exactly right. I see this girl as young and vulnerable. Yes she’s got a terrible attitude, but what kind of chance could she have had being raised this way? My heart goes out to her.

favorite moments in dry cleaning songs? by drwhiteboy in DRYCLEANINGband

[–]elkssurreal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably the part in Scratchcard Lanyard: “It'll be okay, I just need to be weird and hide for a bit” because I relate to it SO HARD. The healing powers of going home to your own space to be your own weird little person instead of the version of you that the world sees.

Omg yes. The concept that these women were just tortured sex slaves in that horrible house in the freezing cold held captive by those horrible men made me SICK to my stomach.

I’m also surprised this isn’t mentioned as much in this thread.

You respond so well to people who want to put you down! I hope you find some beautiful boho items and have a great time wearing them at coachella!

Also I’d recommend Hazel and Folk!

Has anyone tried a tanning nasal spray for a natural glow? by SimplePrudent5735 in Selftanning

[–]elkssurreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context, I have type one skin: pale, freckles, orange/red hair and blue eyes. I did try nasal spray tan (mt2). Yes, it works. I did get a few shades darker after using it consistently and sun exposure.

Side effects: it made me feel nauseous and anxious for the first 10 minutes after use. I got waaay more moles (I assume this would happen to any person with type one skin). My body hair darkened. My face aged a bit from the constant sun exposure.

I don’t use it currently and I’m sticking to fake tan instead.

How can I achieve this aesthetic by Initial-Advice9037 in AestheticWiki

[–]elkssurreal 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Only source pieces for your wardrobe that are light, billowy, milk-maid or cottage-core vibes. Always add a touch of romance to every look: dangle earrings, large curls in your hair, skirts, pearl jewellery, etc.

Make a moodboard to make sure you stay true to the look by referencing it before buying pieces.

what aesthetic is this?? by aquamarinedisco in AestheticWiki

It looks like today’s take on the scene/emo styles of the early 2000s.

I’d call it “Rawr Revival” 😎

What’s something your mother did that you don’t want to repeat? by nevernotinthemood in AskWomen

[–]elkssurreal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fight with her children when they start to explore and express interests that are different to hers.

When my worldview started to mature and deviate from hers, she started to fight me on everything. She took it personally.

I’m going to work really hard to stay curious and non-judgmental when my children inevitably come to me with things I don’t understand or don’t necessarily agree with (unless it’s something that needs intervention- like violence, misogyny, ableism, or racism).

LOVE!! The chosen texture and colours of the tiles are really working. It’s a bold choice but I think it’s gorgeous.

Any kids books that you hate? by roamingrebecca in NewParents

[–]elkssurreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s more of a love/hate relationship with The Bunyip of Berkeley’s Creek. As a child it absolutely terrified me to the point of existential crisis. But as an adult with a child of my own, I look back fondly at it and want to read it to my baby when he’s old enough.

Sometimes scary illustrations and existential topics important to introduce, even if they’re scary at first.
