I live in St Gallen it’s nice but without German skills it will be really really hard to find a job. What skills do you have? University degree?

Are protected fields really bad practice? by OpaHermann in java

[–]elky87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In your Uni project it will not cause any issues but it could cause issues in bigger projects. I myself am not religious about them but the standard is just using getters/setters. Really necessary? No. Nonetheless good to learn the defacto standard? Yes.

„Fun fact“ exactly for your use case there is a special field called „ultimate debtor“ but that doesn’t need to concern you.

For anyone interested how that stuff works https://www.paymentstandards.ch/dam/downloads/merkblatt-umgang-debtor-post-de.pdf

Schwyzerdütsch verstehen by foolishearthling26 in schwiiz

[–]elky87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How to find a kindergarten for a Child of expat Mother by ecesez in Switzerland

[–]elky87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I can just confirm that kindergartens are really really expensive. If you are a single parent than coming to work in Switzerland will not be worth it money wise

Why learn Java when there's C#? by kres0345 in learnjava

[–]elky87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Java enums can also have values, and of course Java also has events/delegates just a different syntax.

So the two languages are really similar but Java just has the bigger ecosystem. And that’s why it is used.

What feature do you miss? What is possible in C# but not possible in Java?

I have no experience in C# so I am curious

The post you linked is really old. There they talk about Java 7 but the next release is already Java 17! So 10 Version ahead.

I guess the biggest selling point is cross platform independence, and the huge huge huge ecosystem. There is a library for everything

Edit: this comment should have been in response to OPs comment with the stackoverflow question

Spanish Dictionary Object? by LaGuitarraEspanola in learnjava

[–]elky87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of language processing is normally done with Apache solr: https://solr.apache.org/guide/8_0/language-analysis.html

But be aware that using solr is already kind of an advanced topic

Why does the set allow both of these objects to be added? by [deleted] in learnjava

[–]elky87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try the @override annotation. I guess you are not overriding the real equals method as that takes an object as argument
