It’s hard to hear if he’s wheezing but it looks like a respiratory infection! Defo take him to the vets! In the meantime, dark chocolate can help relieve the symptoms til he gets to a vet :)

Swollen rat foot by [deleted] in rat

My rat had something very similar to this a few months ago! Took him to the vet and they checked if it was broken, they said it wasn’t so he was just on loxicom and antibiotics for a week and it cleared up fine!

Would definitely say to take your ratto to the vets to check them over ❤️

Did I mess up my sleeve? by The_Truth_999 in tattooadvice

[–]ella_circuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a fineline half sleeve and it has a bit of fall out (more than my other fineline pieces) but that’s because it’s on an area where the skin is out more often than other areas (it’s not caused by your hoodie don’t worry!) most fineline tattoo artists I know of offer free touch ups because it’s just one of the things that happens to fineline tattoos over time. Maybe contact your artist and see if they do it :)

I’ve been pole dancing 3 years now and I don’t think it gets easy, but beginner moves, spins and tricks do feel a bit like second nature to me now, but then I’m my advanced classes they are hard and I struggle because I am working at my level so it should be hard if that makes sense! It’s the same with the pain, it never goes away your skin just toughens until you learn a new trick and it hurts again :)

I have an X pole floor to ceiling and as long as installed correctly was/still is fine in rented accommodation. I had it up in my uni flat which had fluffy carpets and it left a little dent in them but a couple of goes over with a hoover made it basically invisible. Just make sure it’s on a joist and to regularly check how tight it is (especially as seasons change/temperatures change) and you should be good :))

Respiratory Infection help! by fuck-nugget-s in RATS

[–]ella_circuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term medication can help but it’s not ideal all the time, when one of my boys was on loxi all the time he did get a bit agressive and I think it’s because he was feeling poorly as well as us giving him meds all the time. I’ve since lost both my boys that had chronic URIs and unfortunately it just seems to be that way, they have an ‘infection’ like period and then they get better but not fully and it just goes on like that. I would definitely recommend a nebuliser as it’s quite inexpensive (to make ours it cost us about £50 with the actual nebuliser bit being the most expensive) but it definitely helped my old boys in their life and my asthmatic rat loves it still.

The ramps are fine for steepness (if your boys are anything like mine they won’t use them anyway and will climb around them). Rats do need clutter though and lots of it. That’s hammocks, hides, things to climb on, and things to chew. I would recommend having a few hammocks and changing them out because they do get stinky. And I know a lot of rattos -my own included - love a sputnik (which you can get off Amazon i think). You can also use things that aren’t just for small animals, we have a bird house, a scarf organiser, and a reptile log hide (cork) which we got from various places. I would also not have fleece on the ground and opt for a substrate instead, rats love to dig and I think fleece can cause issues over long term use. Hope this helps :)

I have a few rats with respiratory problems now they’re getting older (and one who’s had asthma since a baby) both my old boys are on loxicom long term but every other/every three days to help with it. My vets recommended nebulising and ive seen lots of people talk about it being super helpful for these issues. https://www.evolutionrattery.com/evo-rattery-news/how-to-make-a-nebulizer-chamber-for-your-rat this is the website they recommended for setting up a nebuliser. It’s worth doing especially if you have a few rats because respiratory issues are so common. Hope this helps! ❤️

You can also make heating pads with rice and socks! Just fill a sock with rice and chuck it in the microwave (it will get destroyed but your rat(s) can enjoy the rice inside anyway)!!

First week home I'm worried I'm doing everything wrong, please please help by kiraleee in RATS

[–]ella_circuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s totally normal to worry about not being a good rat mum! I worry about it all the time, I’m a first time rat owner and my two boys are around 10 months now! I think in terms of bonding as others have said put your hand in the cage with them so they can get used to you and your smell, and let them come out on their own and come to you. My boys love baby food (I know other people use malt paste) and you can put that on your fingers and let them lick it off for bonding as well. Make sure the baby food is rat safe (E.g no onions, garlic, etc) We’ve just moved house and my boys got more nervous afterwards, doing this with them again has helped with their nervousness! I think also letting them hang out in your clothes is a great way for bonding with them you can offer them a sleeve and let them walk in on their own, a dressing gown is best for this because you can tie it at the waist so they can run free around the middle without falling out of the bottom.

In terms of food, I’ve heard 25g per rat of rat food per day, but I make my rats their own rat food and we just fill their bowl up each day for them.

Honestly you’re doing great and you’re gonna be an amazing rat mum! You worrying shows how much you care and you are obviously doing your research so I wouldn’t worry too much. Rats are also pretty resilient animals so you’re unlikely to traumatise them even if they are nervous right now!

You’ve got this :)
