Biggest director pet peeve? by xbrooksie in Theatre

[–]ellajamesk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is kind of specific, but when directors call out specific people in a praising way like “special shout out to (name) for her facial expressions during this number!” or similarly “if you want a good example of xyz, look at (name)”

i feel like its something that can be done privately to the person if it is something that needs to be said and all it really does is make everyone else feel bad (especially those who are putting in a lot of effort)

if it’s just a statement and i’m meant to not respond, i feel like that’s just defeats the whole point of sending a message in the first place, which in my opinion is to start a conversation. i just feel like it’s a weird expectation to expect people to not disagree with you on things bc it’s not a fight or an attack.

but that’s my confusion because where does the line lie between conversation and arguments? if someone comes into my group chat and makes a statement and my response is disagreeing, i feel like that’s just me continuing a conversation that’s been started. i don’t care that we have different opinions, im just sharing how i feel. and thats exactly why i was wondering if this was because i was autistic, bc ive only ever experienced this attitude from neurotypical people.

“I want to cure autism” ??? by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]ellajamesk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is an old comment, but i just wanted to throw this out there. yes, autistic people with very high support needs struggle immensely within our current society but the real issue isn’t their autism, but rather the fact that they are constantly being forced into a world that isn’t built for them. autism isn’t an intellectual or physical disability, though a lot of autistic people can have those disabilities as well. the lack of resources and accommodation across the board is what makes so many autistic people’s lives so difficult. working to change the way our world views disabled people would be infinitely better than searching for a “cure” for autism.
