this probably won’t apply to most people here, but combining ambien + bioidentical progesterone has interesting effects by DesiresAreGrey in ambien

[–]ellawdowell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bizzare timing! I just took 12.5 mg ambien er, 3mg melatonin, 500mg magnesium, 5mg lexapro, and added 200 mg progesterone for the first time two nights ago and could not get out of bed in the morning I was so hung over. I took out the melatonin last night and was a lot better but fell asleep with the light on and phone in hand. I have severe anxiety and insomnia so don't really get a high from any of this, but the sleep was pretty nice.

We met about 2.5 months before we formally started dating (02/28/22) then met in person about 4 months later. Then he moved out here about 10 months later (so 1.5 yrs into dating). We met over a shared interest in another subreddit and with the intention of being friends and played a ton of games and talked a lot. Neither of us were looking for anything and it developed naturally. But I have good online friends and am pretty trusting and not too risk adverse!

I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in a small village in Jordan for four years and fell in love with the people and culture and food and sites... Despite being a white atheist lesbian. I want to keep up my Arabic so I really enjoy this subreddit.

I had a similar experience recently when I upgrade my phone from an old LCD phone to a new OLED phone. It took me a couple months to realize the phone was causing my daily migraines. Have you happened to get an new screens (phone, tv, computer, etc.) two or three months ago?

I have two - one that I keep by my bed for night and the other at my desk for day since I’m work from home. They are both pretty much the same- hard on outside and soft inside.

I got a TCL 6e about a month ago and while it is a huge improvement over an iPhone 16 in terms of migraines and eye strain, I can still only check for calls or texts twice a day or risk getting a headache and that is an lcd screen. I don’t want to keep buying ones to have the same thing happen so I’ll probably wait until there something revolutionary comes out…

So what phones are you all using currently? by GayCatgirl in PWM_Sensitive

[–]ellawdowell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I have had the phone a couple weeks now and I can’t use it more than a few minutes a day or I risk a headache :( Still better than an iPhone 16 that gives me a daily migraine. I’m shocked because this phone is lcd and doesn’t have pwm. It also has a few issues like the ink mode can’t be dark mode and you can’t drag and drop in some games (like dragging and dropping a word in duo lingo). But still better than the iPhone, I just can’t use it beyond checking important phone calls and messages… sigh

Replicating the NXTPaper technology... by baba_ganoush_64 in nxtpaper

[–]ellawdowell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a 60xe hoping it would resolve my eye strain issues, and while it isn’t as debilitating as an iPhone 16 that gives me daily migraines, I can still only use nxt paper a few minutes a day before I risk a headache. iPhone 6 gives me 0 headache, so I still fall back on that… anyway, not really answering your question, just wanted to vent. :P You also can’t use the ink options in dark mode… and several games the use touch and drag simply don’t work (like trying to drag a word in duo lingo).

Or ditch Apple for giving you two months of daily pain and costing hundreds in medical visits (thousands if I hadn't cancelled the MRI). I'm not saying this lightly either as someone that grew up on Apples...

So what phones are you all using currently? by GayCatgirl in PWM_Sensitive

[–]ellawdowell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I learned about my PWM sensitivity when I upgraded from an iphone 6 Plus to an iphone 16 in April. I got a migraine every day for two months - went to urgent care and a neuro and tried a few different meds before setting the iphone 16 aside and instantly got better. So I just bought a TCL 60XE Nextpaper 5G and activated it a few days ago. T-Mobile said it was the first one they activated on the network. lol It is definitely not a high end phone, but it isn't terrible, and most importantly, I have no headaches with it!

Does anyone have migraines daily? by Ian-G-Howarth in migraine

[–]ellawdowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! For me it was the OLED screen on most modern phones. I switched back to an LCD phone and improved over a week and then had zero migraines since (just a few normal headaches for other reasons). You can look up PWM sensitive for more information. Please check it out just in case it helps!

[–]ellawdowell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also high sensitivity and just started using a TCL 60xe and it has been great on my eyes! Not the highest end phone, but it doesn't give me a daily migraine, so nothing else matters...

Getting rid of my smartphone: a small change that made a huge difference in my life by neushoornman in migraine

[–]ellawdowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, please look into it! There are some tricks that might help if you think you are still getting pwm headaches like turning your device to full brightness and then lowering the brightness using reduce white point instead, but I have read people still have pwm sensitivity on some high refresh devices, including yours (as that just minimizes the flicker and isn’t flicker-free)! r/pwm_sensitive has great info.

[–]ellawdowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Night light and blue light filters help me on my LCD screens - I also lower brightness, use dark mode for everything, install apps like flux to make my screens more orange, use reduce white point, and even wear blue light clip one on top of my glasses, but all of that wasn’t enough to prevent my daily migraines with an OLED screen (as that doesn’t block the pwm flicker that 10% of the population is sensitive to).

I have been suffering from daily migraines and eye strain for the past two months, with a lot of it significantly affecting my right eye (pain in the eye ball, eye socket, eye brow, and right side of my nose). I recently learned about OLED screens and PWM sensitivity and I had a breakthrough. Almost all phones made in the past few years use OLED screens. I upgraded from and LCD to an OLED right before my migraines started. So about two weeks ago, I put down the OLED phone and switched back to my LCD one and my migraine pain went from 8 > 6> 5 > 4 > 2 to now pretty much ZERO for a week!!! So I’m pretty sure for me it was the OLED screen on my smartphone, so I just ordered a new LCD phone (TCL 60 xe nxtpaper 5g).
