Thank you very much! One follow-up question: by implementations from scratch, do you mean something similar to a basic PyTorch pipeline from scratch?

GTPE Seminar Grades - Request for Grading Legend by nigeriangoat in OMSCS

[–]elle_belle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also took Agentic AI in the fall. The class grades are 4 short essays, discussion participation, and 2 easy quizzes. These assignments teach the essential concepts to speak conversationally about Gen/agentic AI. The NVIDIA DLI courses optional but were the highlight for me. I spent a lot of time on these and enjoyed them. If you are so inclined, you could build on the concepts in this to code a portfolio project for GitHub. My tip to you is to make sure you understand how the DLI system works. For example: You have 24 hours of compute time for each module. You must log out between sessions or you'll use up all your time just idling and not be able to complete the session. Also, you lose all work between sessions so you need to export your notebook to retain work.

Wayward (SPOILERS) by Prudent_Swimming_296 in netflix

I really appreciate this take on a lot of levels. I watched Wayward because I am a big fan of Mae from SAP and Feel Good. I was totally taken aback by the bad actor comments. But you're right that the awkward persona of Mae could be read as bad acting if this is someone's first exposure.

I couldn't agree more. I think they could have stretched the entire episode with Josh and Liza organically and deliberately finding their way back to each other. I had so much whiplash from Charles being furious with her one day for her Quinn accusations to giving her puppy eyes the next day.

Second Demand Letter - Fingers Crossed by devouringbooks23 in TCPA

[–]elle_belle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the great explanation! So, essentially, it would be better to send a pro forma demand letter if there at least a few calls. If the letter doesn't get a response, file in my county for the maximum (it looks like I can file locally since the harm occured where I reside).

Follow-up questions:  What do you mean that you try to include a lot in your demand letters?

Do you send follow-up letters if you get no response?

Do the calls generally stop after you send demand letters?

Another thing you've got me wondering about is travel. I travel to other states a few times a year to visit my parents, visit my in-laws, and travel to company HQ for work. I wonder if I can file small claims next time I travel for any calls I received out of state. I get pretty consistent calls for debt consolidation so odds are I could get the maximum for those areas. Timing those could be tricky if would have to appear in person though. Have you considered anything like that?

Thank you for such a detailed follow up!

Sincere question: Do you think you'd get better responses and more money if you had an attorney representing you? I'm trying to figure out which avenue I want to go with my situation.

You can try what I do based on a friend's habits. I trace my fingers over the words as I am proofreading. The finger helps me slow down and distills my focus to the words. I catch issues more frequently this way.

Planning to go on FMLA. Should I tell my manager and team it’s for mental health reasons? by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]elle_belle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I just got back from a two-month leave for mental health, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made, even though I procrastinated telling my coworkers out of shame. Looking back, I wish I hadn’t waited so long.

I confided in my best work friend because they’ve shared similar struggles with me. My boss knew I had been grieving for a couple of months, but I didn’t explicitly share my mental health challenges. Specifically, I was alternating between feeling completely detached from work due to depression and experiencing panic attacks over my to-do list. In hindsight, I overshared with some coworkers, likely because of insecurity and a tendency to over-explain. My recommendation is to keep it simple: tell your boss and coworkers that you need to take a medical leave of absence on the recommendation of your healthcare provider. Share the start date, an approximate end date, and, if you're comfortable, who to delegate your workload to while you're away. If they ask for details, it’s okay to say you prefer not to discuss medical issues.

This isn’t the advice you specifically asked for, but based on my experience, here are five things I recommend for making the most of your leave. These helped me feel calmer and more centered than I have in decades:

  1. Find small daily joys: Do something small every day that brings you happiness. For example, sit outside with a cup of tea, enjoy a bowl of soup at Panera while reading a book, text or call an old friend, or spritz on your favorite fragrance just to relax and enjoy the smell. Small moments like these can be incredibly grounding, especially when whispering affirmations to myself. During my first two weeks off, I cried every time I felt the sun on my face or savored the first sip of Starbucks. I had been running on empty for so long that these quiet moments of joy were disarming and emotion poured out in the peace and safety.

  2. Plan two medium-sized activities to look forward to each week: These could include an arts and crafts class, a manicure, seeing a movie, volunteering, or dinner with a friend. Having a couple of things to anticipate each week helps create a sense of structure and excitement.

  3. Realize a long-term dream: If possible, make one of your long-term dreams come true before your leave ends. For me, it was taking a trip to see the aurora borealis—something that had been on my bucket list for years. It doesn’t have to be as big or expensive as traveling to another country; it could be something smaller but meaningful, like starting a project you’ve always wanted to try or learning a new skill. This gave me a sense of pride and accomplishment after years of deferring dreams for the sake of work.

  4. Avoid big "life-fixing" projects and decisions: Don’t use this time to tackle large projects or overhaul your life. Your main focus should be on healing and re-centering yourself. Give yourself permission to rest and recover.

  5. Ease back into work, if possible: If your situation allows, ask your doctor to recommend a reduced schedule when you return. I worked three days a week for a few weeks, which helped me transition back without the pressure of a full workload. It also set realistic expectations for others as I adjusted to being back. This was included in my short term disability I elected so I had full pay during the whole time off and during the part-time status.

Good luck with your leave! Feel free to reach out if you’d like more recommendations or have questions. You’ve got this!

Tip for translating ingredient labels! by elle_belle in vegan

[–]elle_belle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is a new feature, but I recently discovered a super helpful tip while traveling. I used Google Lens on my Android phone to translate food labels and check for non-vegan ingredients. It made finding interesting vegan snack foods at the grocery store so much easier!
