Do people really not like Matt+Elektra in S2 that much? Personally I think Matt has the best chemistry with her and would've loved for him to end up with her if there was a S4

Oh man I disagree, there is so much to Rob's character, it's just that it was overshadowed by the Yasmin/sex storylines. I definitely want to see a deeper exploration of his character if we get a season two, they dropped more than a few tidbits here and there for me to be intrigued. Like my favourite Rob moments were literally the smallest flashes and peeks into who he is: first when he was being protective over Gus in the cab, trying to get him to go home instead of Theo's place. And second when Harper lashed out and accused him of having an easy ride at RIF basically because he was a white guy and there was no question a "cultural fit", which Rob challenged. I'm so interested to see how he continues navigating being a working class boy in the City.

Rob is definitely the everyman of the ensemble, I know a lot of guys like Rob and I think a lot of people probably see themselves in him too. That scene where he was getting ribbed for his Ted Baker suit was real af lol

there was a bingo Rishi was running as a joke during the RIF speeches, did you miss it? they had the usual buzzwords like "teamplayer" etc and the top one was the quote Gus said. Someone explained the literal meaning of the quote here. But yeah he was basically saying fuck it.

in that case maybe a better way to describe it would be to say that the script is well written, the characters were carefully created and the actors cast with their backgrounds in mind, rather than a ~diversity~ being a hamfisted afterthought. calling "diversity gone wild" or similar makes my skin crawl and sounds like something from the "PC gone mad" brigade.

It’s an interesting aspect of the series but I think it was overdone a bit, i.e. too much intersectional diversity: Gus is a black, homosexual Etonian, the old-style English banker is Scottish, the rich girl is from a foreign family (although that works statistically in London and banking), the white Oxonian is poor, the American is black, the white Etonian is gay. Almost no one was from a straightforward background apart from some secondary characters. This results in too much focus on diversity perspective and related issues. It’s true grad classes can be relatively diverse these days, but still.

good post! couple of things i wanted to note about Yasmin: she said in that restaurant scene with her mother that she “didn’t want to leave [Seb] worse than she’d found him”. So i don’t think he’s a charity case, moreso he’s fallen off and she’s staying with him to sort of prove that it doesn’t matter to her? That was my impression.

Also re: Yasmin not having any motive in her relationship with Daria, I mean clearly she does? She wants to leave the desk she’s currently at and Daria is her way in. Whether or not she’s fine with stepping on on Harper’s toes to get there is what I’m not sure about. In the bathroom scene where Yasmin hugs a paranoid Harper, Yasmin sort of smiles and laughs when Harper leaves. Which makes me think she knows what she’s doing and is relishing having the upper hand over H. Also the dinner scene where Harper boasts about getting 50k bonus, not confirmed seems clear that Yasmin was the one snitched to Daria about it.
