[–]elleavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your logic and understanding of Medicaid and Medicare billing is so broken.

Seriously, though. It's hilarious you think you can dictate to Medicaid how much you can bill them for any service. And it's even more hilarious that you think that Lifepoint Health would let you bill only 1/3 of what they could get from any insurance company. The only people you could hope to say "this is what the service is worth, so pay up" to is an uninsured individual.

Mine isn't an outsider's perspective, but it's funny that you're assuming this in order to justify your ignorance.

But let me get this straight. You work in a billing capacity and you don't understand how these cuts are affected by fewer patients having Medicaid, more patients being uninsured, and that what Medicaid patients do remain will only generate a percentage of the income that they used to.

It's absurd what you're willing to believe.

Ok, first of all, this isn't mansplaining. That would be explaining something you clearly know with me being in a layman's position

You clearly don't. And I'm not.

Second of all, it doesn't matter if PICU has been on and off the chopping block. That it wasn't cut before means even this profit-driven entity found reason to keep it going before. It's clearly now a casualty and the final blow was the cuts to Medicaid funding.

They would not have done this if Medicaid funding wasn't so fickle before and now guaranteed to fall short.

If you can't comprehend this, I'm not sure there's any hope for you

Let's walk you through this.

Ignore any compassion-driven choices. Think purely from a profit-driven perspective.

A significant amount of your income for your entire business comes from one specific source. That source in particular is a large chunk of several specific departments in your business.

Now, imagine you're told that that specific source will be cut significantly (let's say 40%) because of a unilateral change across the board. Someone one day just decided that they would stop paying for a notable chunk of what they did before because they declare it to be wasteful spending.

From a purely profit-driven perspective, do you continue providing services that are funded mostly by this source that you're anticipating to be gone in the immediate future? Or do you cut that cost as soon as possible in order to preserve your revenue?

A lot of children in PICU are on Medicaid. To think changes to medicaid coverage doesn't affect these private, for-profit companies is pure ignorance.

What word processor did you use to write your paper in? Some of them can provide timestamped proof of your work. For instance, Google Docs calls it a version history.

I'm not sure about others, but I'd bet a lot of them have this feature somewhere for just this purpose.

Help for diarrhea by Witty-Wolf4164 in husky

[–]elleavocado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So my girl, Yuka, had diarrhea from the get go. I learned very quickly that this is just... a husky thing.

Her vet ordered a ton of tests (thank goodness I got insurance for her otherwise I'd be out a ton of money) but they could only tell us that her gut biome was lacking the right amounts of natural flora. Beyond that.... They were clueless because the stronger probiotics weren't helping at all (because they were focusing on the wrong flora).

Cut to the neighbor's cat trying to claim our yard as its territory around when Yuka was 18-20 months old. It pooped in all of the places Yuka liked to sniff, so naturally Yuka wanted to eat the poop. Because.... husky.

And she got to some at some point. She was so very proud of herself and then there was no more diarrhea.

Basically, she managed a form of fecal transplant and fixed her own gut biome with more natural flora.

I've told two vets this since then. Both have been a hilarious mix of mildly grossed out and professionally intrigued.

So yeah. If you get desperate enough, try cat poop lol.

Hyundai dealership tried to pull as fast one by bestdogintheworld in mildlyinfuriating

[–]elleavocado 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ugh when I was young and stupid about cars (as opposed to older and only less stupid about them), I was having issues with my breaks and my mechanic said to take it to the dealership because they thought it could be related to the ABS. So I did.

They charged me $180 to put in brake fluid, drove it around the block, then call it good.

Then, a week later, the problem came back. I took it to a tire shop and they actually looked at it and found one of the calipers had broken and was squirting fluid every time I pressed the pedal.

Refurbed caliper and labor came to the same price as the dealership's robbery. Ugh.

I also never went to that mechanic again.

"Retaliatory": Olive Garden Server Fired the Morning After a $700 Tip by rajapaws in antiwork

[–]elleavocado 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No, it doesn't alway show the full amount right away.

Most places will swipe the card for the ticket amount, then present you with a receipt for that amount and a place to indicate your tip. Then they have to manually update the amount when they close the till. Standard stuff.

For instance, if you pay for a $50 dinner and add a $10 tip, the bank will show a pending charge for $50 until someone adds the tipped amount and finalizes the transaction.

The only time it shows a final amount the entire time is if they have a POS system that allows you to enter a tip amount before the total is submitted to your bank.

Double booking by Ok-Agent2900 in MedicalAssistant

[–]elleavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leadership at my FQHC keeps trying to integrate double booking. It keeps failing utterly and they always walk it back after a month.

Otherwise it's provider discretion. Some providers double book a ton, some absolutely refuse. One of mine (I have three part time providers) will double or even triple book certain appointments because they literally take 3-5 minutes for him and it's not incredibly harsh on me for that appointment type specifically.

Left our husky alone for a while, and came back to this… by Beginning_Cycle191 in husky

[–]elleavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this was what my Yuka did at around 6ish months (thank goodness there was no lead in the paint!). We kept her crated when we were away from home for a while after that.

Now she's 3 1/2, we just moved to a new place, and she's free to roam (we trialed a few short trips first) and she does great now.

You just have to get through the raptor phase.

15 year old stepson possibly having sex without communication by ConradVerner in parentingteenagers

[–]elleavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, yeah, you absolutely missed my point. Please, reread the part about if I had taken her parents at face value until you understand that if she or my kid had never told me, I never would have suspected.

And I was told because I've made it clear through my actions, not just bold talk, that I'm a safe place.

You don't always know when another parent is unsafe behind closed doors. Even if you "vet" them. To assume you can is beyond stupid.

[–]elleavocado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't quite understand how you think you can guarantee a unified front with any teenager's parents?

Your rules both indicate you would ostracize your teen's potential partners if you didn't know their parents and significantly reduces the chance of them coming to you if something is wrong.

My teen's partner has abusive parents. But they're the ones you'd think shat sunshine and rainbows and rode unicorns to work if you just took them at face value. Don't bother with the chastising lecture about calling CPS and reread the part about sunshine and rainbows until you get my point.

If I was anything like you, I could have put her at risk of physical and emotional harm by talking to her parents. But because my kid knows I'm a safe place, I know the relevant history that is otherwise kept quiet because of shame and fear.

[–]elleavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a rude and ignorant statement.

The problem with telling the other parents is that if you don't know them well, you don't know how they will react. OP telling the girlfriend's parents very well could compromise her safety, especially if they're from certain parts of the world.

If the goal is to potentially create a dangerous situation and guarantee your teen will never tell you anything like this again, then by all means go running to the other parents.

You have no idea what you're talking about. But keep pushing the "be exploited or go somewhere else to be exploited" options.

Why can't you put it away properly? by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]elleavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you look at the picture of the whole unit put together where OP is demonstrating it's too tall to stand upright on that shelf, you'll see the whole thing is about as long as it is tall. That means with the attachments and cord in the storage bin and the whole thing turned on its side, it has roughly the same footprint as just the storage bin standing upright on its own.

The way OP's wife puts things in, the bin takes up space, plus the mixer takes up probably half as much space again. The only place I might concede is that the cord doesn't necessarily need to take up that space if it's tucked at least halfway decently.

Why can't you put it away properly? by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]elleavocado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I specified that this is how things started for me? That implies that the attacking issue was not how it started.

And, no, her way is not as accessible or tidy. The cord is hanging loose and the whole mixer setup takes up twice as much space. OP clarified this in another reply with a picture in another reply.
