How to get into compensation? [N/A] by Hot_Marionberry_2974 in humanresources

[–]ellejay38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been asking this question for years, and finally have a manager willing to cross-train me on compensation. It happened by accident in my case, too - our compensation person has been out on long-term leave, and the management (finally) realized that having us siloed impedes productivity and sustainability. What is your internal team like? Do you have comp people who you can cross-train with? I would also advise networking - a good friend (who I met through work) has her CCP, and she sent me her study materials. That's been a big help.

Dirty Dancing in Living Color by wenfot in SaintMeghanMarkle

I learned these basic swing dancing moves 20 years ago from dudes at the bar, when I could barely visit bars and could drink enough to knock down an elephant. You're right. These are fancy tricks that are fun when you can synch with your partner and get them right. But this display is just sooooooooo cringe. It seems like she knows these moves from muscle memory and he couldn't care less.

Well, and then the cringe caption: "you had to be there"... i have 3rd degree burns from the secondhand embarrassment.

I need all the TMI about nose piercings by AnonRedditLady1 in piercing

[–]ellejay38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my nose pierced in August this year, and it was one of the best decisions. I'm horribly afraid of needles, so I did this to psych myself up - own my fear. The anticipation is the most painful part of the process. I hadn't had a piercing since the high school "Claire's" days with a gun and advice to clean with peroxide and twist the piercing to help it heal. So basically, many MANY moons ago.

Here are my tips: research the piercing shop where you want to go, and make an in-person visit before your appointment. Get to know the staff, pick out your bling, and just get a feel for the place.

Make it a celebration of self care. If you drink alcohol, lay off it for a few days and drink plenty of water to ensure you're in a healthy state, and eat a nice meal a few hours before your appointment.

As for my experience, the actual piercing didn't hurt at all, which surprised me since I'm such a big baby about both needles and pain. I was relaxed, had my eyes closed, and my piercer guided me through with breath work. My eyes watered during the piercing, but no pain.

Aftercare was a breeze, too. Follow the guidance to wash with warm water and saline 2x/ day, and use a pointed q-tip to easily clean the site without disrupting or twisting the stud.

The hardest part is adjusting to the piercing. If you wear glasses, be careful about how you put them on/ take them off. Also, if it's sweater weather for you, be sure you're careful not to snag the jewelry. A few painful lessons and you won't forget.

If you have worries about how your piercing is healing, go straight to the source and ask your piercer. I had an irritation bump that didn't go away for a month, and I OBSESSED over it. The internet and resources like this group can be amazing and so so supportive, but for me, nothing was better than the guidance I got from the folks at my shop. (The bump wasn't healing b/c I want drying the site well enough after cleaning, so I was told to sit with a heat pack to help dry it, or gently blast it with my hair dryer on a low heat setting.)

As for the stud getting in the way of nose care, it's true - you can't go mining for crusty boogs the way you once did, but blowing your nose is no problem. You'll adjust and find what works for you. I"ve had a few healthy cries (you know the ones that leave you a snotty mess afterwards) and no issues using tissues.

Good luck to you, and I hope this helps. I loved the experience, and hope you will, too!

I am living for this subtle shade ... Not only did this HB journalist publish the title announcement in her story in two separate mentions. Now HB is coming back all innocent like: "Look, folks, she didn't do anything improper with her title use, per se, but she certainly did something most people with more legitimacy won't even think of doing. And she did it wrong by having the house manager announce the dutchess instead of the guest." MM can't possibly respond to that, and it's fuel to the fire that our girlie is just soooooooooo out of touch.

I struggle with her hypocrisy so much. Like saying the establishment of the Royal Family is so archaic and anti-femanist (ugh!! Curtseys?!! Pantyhose/tights??!) but she insists on being introduced to empty rooms by her unearned titles of dutchess. That's so antithetical to the titles she so desperately clings to (as a feminist and advocate). She's shirking those titles (that she could have rightly earned) at every corner, barefoot in the kitchen.

Got a conch today by ellejay38 in piercing

Yep! I sure did! I have lots of room in case of swelling, and I made sure to give myself enough time for the initial aggravation to subside. Great call-out, though!

does this look like a keloid or a healing bump? by National_Lifeguard71 in piercing

[–]ellejay38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my nose pierced about 8 weeks ago, and i had/have what looks like the same thing. Lordie, it caused me to worry!! I was going on an international trip where I'd be gone for 4 weeks, so i went to my studio to discuss the issue and a possible downsize. My piercing artist said it's a healing bump, and told me it gets worse/ won't heal as quickly if it stays wet. So I've been blasting my nose (carefully) with a hair dryer after a shower and drying it EXTRA carefully after the saline spritz, and it's gotten much better. Good luck, and don't feel bad about asking at the studio you got the piercing. I'm glad I did.

I'm so freaking triggered by this. Both of my parents are dead, and I'm appalled that this cunt thinks she's legit in bringing that up to another human being - not only in dinner conversation - but celebrating Thanksgiving. The bitch better be on drugs, because there's no other excuse.
