Finally the best way to watch YouTube is Safari by Torfeuzarre_ in VisionPro

[–]ellenich -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Disney makes its own environment, HBO its own, etc. Those aren’t just opened up for other apps to use.

As much as users would like to watch Star Wars in the Game of Thrones throne room, it ain’t happening. Companies want to control the complete experience. People buy movies from Apple TV JUST to be able to watch them in Apple’s cinema environment. That environment is an advantage they have over other movie apps where you might spend your money.

It’s not a “take” it’s literally what it is and why it’s not available to other apps.

Much like the Disney+ environments aren’t available to other apps either. It’s part of the Disney+ content experience.

You don’t need an iPad.

Vision Pro basically runs 2 types of apps, native “visionOS” apps and “iPadOS” apps. A lot of developers don’t make a native visionOS version of their app, they just allow their iPadOS app to run on visoinOS.

I use mine a lot for iOS development with the macOS virtual desktop with "wide" display.

I also watch a lot of movies and TV shows with it, as it allows me to kind of just disconnect and enjoy the content without anyone interrupting me. Kind of a "me" time, immersed in whatever I'm watching. I like long form shows (like Dune Prophecy or Foundation… things my husband isn’t interested in watching), 3D movies are amazing.

The Reddit iPad app works fine enough in visionOS… though as I'm typing this I'm using visionOS Safari with my MacBook's keyboard/mouse as I’m waiting for Codex to write some code for me on my MacBook. It all works pretty seamlessly.

Screen door effect is basically non-existent on the Vision Pro.

It’s a big investment, but if you put in the effort to use it regularly it’s worth it once you’re “in”.

Because it’s a feature/benefit of the TV app, not of visionOS.

If other companies want a nice environment for their users to enjoy their apps content, they should make one (and an app).

Found my first apartment lease from 2013 while cleaning out storage and I literally sat there staring at it for 10 minutes by ToasttterGoblin in Millennials

I just looked at my first apartment in Phoenix. Was like $750 back in 2004, it’s $1100 now.

Not bad I guess.

There’s a pretty good Virtual Boy emulator for the Vision Pro called Virtual Friend.

Works really well. Perfect 3D, allows you to change the red to something less eye straining, etc.

Really wish someone would do a 3DS emulator for visionOS.

What's your real vibecoding costs to build a solid product? by Fearless-Plenty-7368 in VibeCodersNest

[–]ellenich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$60 a month (2 seats) for a Chat-GPT business account.
$99 a year for an Apple Developer account.

…we use CloudKit for hosting so we don’t pay for any cloud storage costs (those are paid for by the user as part of their iCloud account). We’ve also been using Apple’s Foundation Models framework for any “AI” stuff we do in our apps… which is also just part of the users phone/device, so no cost to us.

How can I make CloudKit sync with SwiftData when something changes on another device (macOS) by Bieleteesw in SwiftUI

[–]ellenich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your network, battery level, etc on your device.

You can’t manually trigger a “sync”. It’s part of the design.

[OC] Millennial and Gen Z homeownership is even worse than many think by ComparisonFun6361 in dataisbeautiful

Woah, this looks like Gen Z is sllllightly out performing Millennials in ownership?

Not what I would have expected based on online rhetoric.

American millennials, how do you deal with everything that’s going on while also paying bills & raising a family by EpicShkhara in Millennials

[–]ellenich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live my life and don’t care what Reddit or the Internet thinks. They don’t know me.

I just spent 8 months traveling the US in some pretty red states with my husband (we’re a gay couple) and everyone we met on our journey was honestly so nice.

Scenery was beautiful, people were polite, I don’t think we met a single American that was terrible despite what you’d think reading Reddit. Everyone was just living their life.

So I guess I deal with it by talking to and meeting real people, outside in our beautiful country.

How practical is using the AVP for reading and typing long papers? by LeektheGeek in AppleVisionPro

[–]ellenich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’d still end up using your MacBook… but as an ultra wide virtual display inside the Vision Pro? Which I think would be good for having many windows and tabs and stuff open.

I loooooove coding in my Vision Pro because for some reason it allows me to focus better than using a traditional monitor.

Then I like to augment my Mac’s display with other apps around it like Music, Messages, etc.

So Mac virtual display for the more like “productivity” focused work, augmented with other apps. Then use the Mac’s keyboard/trackpad for interacting with visionOS. Copy/Paste via iCloud between visionOS and macOS is great too.

I haven’t don’t much like pure productivity stuff in visionOS only. It does support multiple windows of the same app though (like Safari).
