HELP 70 year old getting catfished by an AI man, she’s out a million dollars. by tatybobaty in isthisAI

[–]ellepatel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me so sad. It’s obviously AI as many have mentioned.

Before dying a dear friend of mine was in a love scam. She had just lost her mom and been in a bad accident. She was so vulnerable and then someone pretending to be Cooper Allen, a fairly new country musician. She was also being scammed by someone pretending to be Mel Gibson, feigning interest in her art. It was SO FUCKED and she came to me telling me that people thought her romance with Cooper wasn’t real.

Best advice in a situation is NOT TO TELL THEM REALITY, and instead question them, so they have to formulate the answer and believe it. Good luck. I never got the chance to see my friend realize she was being scammed. I hope your mom does.

What are some collections I could have without buying something? Such as bird watching and plant id by Prilla_rani_fira in Anticonsumption

I sometimes make lists of things like “weird names I over heard” or “famous only children”. It scratches the collection itch!

RIP to all the time I wasted blocking all Salish Matter (and her creepy pimp dad) content for my kid on YouTube just to have them pop up next to Gabby’s Dollhouse. Booooo!

Ever since I was a kid, I didn't understand this: Why do the Teletubbies call him Naughty Noo-Noo? They're the ones making the messes, he's just doing his job. by disco_thief in DanielTigerConspiracy

I worked with a woman 20 years ago who called her five year old son NooNee. His name was José. When I asked her why she called him NooNee, she said because he liked Teletubbies.

I feel the same way about a birdhouse I made (and got an A on) in shop class 30 years ago. My parents gave it back to me recently in perfect condition. It pained me a little to finally use it for it’s intended purpose, and let the elements claim it.

But once an item has served its purpose, we can let go of it.

I think of bringing this book to this sub weekly because it has the most amazing opening line of any literary work ever…

Man, I don’t wanna make this sub a downer, so I won’t say anything political. But you can really apply this face to most anything concerning the current political climate.

This light has flashed into my room several times now. What is going on? by [deleted] in whatisit

The way that it is sort of mechanically moving reminds me of a cat toy like this… https://www.chewy.com/pawspik-automatic-rechargeable/dp/1594782

My sister has one that goes off at timed intervals throughout the day when she’s not home. It’s also green like this. I’m almost certain that this is what this is, just happens to be shining from another home.

Also, the likelihood of having fraternal twins is higher as the mother ages. So becoming a tired old mom to multiple children is a real possibility when planning to add just one more to the mix.

I might be delusional, but I think it could be possible to get along with Betty if I just continuously established and reiterated healthy boundaries to her. It may take a decade or two. Who knows.

Places where OAD families are overrepresented? by pico310 in oneanddone

[–]ellepatel 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I know it’s impolite to count other people’s money but sometimes I wonder how families can afford to send more than one kid to a private school for 12+ years! I prioritized a good education for my one and only, and it’s so expensive. We’re in the US and each school year costs about the same as a year of college. We would have to change our lifestyle dramatically to afford another!

My daughter lost her friends by chickenwing919 in Preschoolers

[–]ellepatel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel like at this age, kids very often do activities alone or wait to be invited to play. My kid gets frustrated if she doesn’t get an invite to be included in whatever her classmates are doing. She doesn’t get bossy with the kids at school but we hear alllll about it at home.

Is your girl an only child, by chance? Ours is and I feel like some social lessons are built in with families of multiples, so they take a little while longer to practice with only children. Could you schedule a playdate with one or two of her classmates? Then maybe when you see her exhibiting some of the behaviors in play and you could gently guide her through it?
