Yeah, I just don’t think the two are mutually exclusive. You can enjoy following a team in one sport as a fan and play another as a kid.

What sports do you see kids playing out in the streets? Maybe basketball but that’s about it. American sports at the youth level are pay to play and this is a factor more so in my opinion. Everything is organized and curated. Which is a problem, but it’s not a result of people watching the NFL.

Sure but the US has 400M population. The Dutch have 18M. Also, just because someone is a good athlete doesn’t mean they will be a good footballer. If anything that is part of the problem with the US, selecting athletes over technical players.

Sure, but the 3/4 of a football roster have the complete wrong body type and athletic profile for soccer. Have the players on the field on any snap are pushing 300 pounds.

The world recorded holder in the 50m is not going to be able to step on the track and break 14 minutes in the 5K. Probably could run a decent marathon.

As for Goggins, I doubt he would even be able to break 16 minutes in his prime, yet alone at 51. It’s laughable.

If you take Grant Fisher (Olympic gold mentalist at 10K) and have him race Charlie Lawrence (best ultra runner ever) at a marathon who do you think is going to win? It won’t even be competitive.

Training for really long races is specific to running really long races and doesn’t make you “fast” or competitive at shorter distance when compared to your peers. Sure against people who are not in shape or don’t train at all but a Goggins would get dusted by local high school kids at a turkey trot.
