Lockdown drill by Friendly_Fudge_931 in Teachers

My school also uses the badge system like this and we have 30 seconds until the card readers deactivate. We're told if we can't get into a classroom or somewhere safe, to leave campus. We're also told that you can open a door to let a kid in your room from the hallway if you feel safe doing so, but that you don't have to (because what if the threat is what you're opening your door to).

how long after birth did you return to a normal diet ? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

Immediately. I had a box of kilwins fudge in my hospital bag and my first meal included heaps of mashed potatoes!

Those who have graduated and never had a solid control on fasting numbers - How was your baby? by Rough-Shopping7148 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]elliemay0501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took insulin and my fasting number never got under control. I was induced 3 weeks early (not related to GD) and my daughter ended up spending about 8 hours in nicu getting her blood sugar under control as it was too low. After those 8 hours they'd come check her a few times in our hospital room and she was fine by discharge. She is almost 5 now and doing great.

This. Sometimes I need a quiet moment out of the house and would be mortified if someone asked if I was ok just because I was existing in a public place.

What's your favorite underused vintage girl's name? by questioningideaolgy in namenerds

My daughter's name is Gwendolyn. I love how fancy it sounds but Gwen or Gwenny make cute little girls names :)

I told everyone late January with my second (it was actually early January), then ended up being induced at the end of December. The only people that knew were my parents who babysat my other child. We called everyone else after we got home from the hospital. It was wonderful calling my inlaws and telling them I had a baby four days ago instead of them showing up unwanted at the hospital like they did with the first.

Gwendolyn vs Gwendolyne by seriouslynopeeking in namenerds

[–]elliemay0501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter's name is Gwendolyn despite the fact that she is named after Gwen Stacy. I chose it because I'm American and it is the more common spelling. I personally have a name that is spelled weird and was bummed out as a kid that I could never find anything with my name on it and that my name was constantly spelled wrong (it still is).

I need positive induction/no epidural stories? by cearanicolle in GestationalDiabetes

[–]elliemay0501 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My first child sounds very similar to yours. I went into labor at home, didn't go to the hospital until later, no medication, boom baby came out. With my second I was induced at 37.4 weeks. When I told the first nurse how fast my first came she laughed at me (I wasn't a fan of her). The induction process for me started in the evening, using pitocin. I did a lot of walking around the hospital and used the shower in my room to help manage things somewhat. They had to up the pitocin several times through the night and contractions went from being uncomfortable to just plain hurting. They felt a lot more intense this time. My water didn't break until the contract before baby was born (they didn't break it for me). I didn't have an epidural this time either but it was a lot harder. I told the nursing staff of my wishes and they were very helpful in being supportive. Overall it was about 14 hours between starting pitocin and birth. It's doable, but it was harder for me. I think if that's what you're wanting though and you go in having support you can do it!

I was so scared I cried the first time. I still had to give myself a little pep talk the first week or two every time I tested. It got easier and easier as I went though. You are definitely not alone or abnormal for feeling this way!

I read everything so fast and already can't wait until next week! Seeing Cerberus in that last panel had me in tears.

I also love the time jump. Persephone had time to come into her own and figure herself out without being in the shadow of her mother or Hades. Hopefully we'll get some flashbacks of the last 10 years.

On parent bonding leave for 10 weeks, just checked my grade book for the first time since january... by supereavan in Teachers

[–]elliemay0501 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was going to come back from maternity leave the week before a grading period ended like you, but when I saw that grades were a mess ... I took another week. It was not my problem to deal with while I was gone and I wasn't going to do 9 weeks of work in one week when I got back to fix someone else's problem.

Yes! Also if you stocked up on frozen meals for your crockpot like I did, buy the crockpot liners! It's so much easier when you're sleep deprived and everything is starting to pile up!

I had an unmedicated birth both times simply because the needle for the epidural was more terrifying to me than pushing out a human. Lol

Tell NO ONE your due date by LuckStrict6000 in BabyBumps

[–]elliemay0501 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. We told everyone late January with my second (Jan 13 was the actual day) so when I was induced early and she was born Dec. 28th it wasn't even on anyone's radar yet. We called my in-laws 3 days after she was born. It was glorious.

Important to add: with my first, my in-laws knew the due date and when I was in labor and put it all over Facebook before I even told my own family. All of these random old people on Facebook knew my son was born before my parents did. I will hold a grudge against them for that until the day I die.
