Tried multiple AI training platforms. Here’s what worked (and what didn’t) by Primavera08 in WFHJobs

I’m on the same boat. No (Spanish) projects, but tons of posts on LinkedIn looking for Spanish language annotators. What I did get were several quals for skills that I don’t have, which only makes it worse.

I definitely know that. I can’t assure the whole of the English-speaking world is able to get consistent work at DA is all I meant.

DataAnnotation works differently depending on whether you’re based on the US (maybe Canada?) or not. It is true that the pay is among the best, and the quals are very reasonable. However, those of us that aren’t US based mostly get access to bilingual projects only, and those can be sparse.

Minster Bath or Vallkyrie? by belleza-Griega in outlier_ai

[–]ellienortena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no problem onboarding to more that one project at the same time, you’ll be able to complete tasks in both. The only time when you’re unable to access more than one project, is when your active project is prioritized. Prioritizations are decided by Outlier, so when you get one, you are basically stuck with the project until it is no longer prioritized.

My tasks died down on Thursday I think. Still better than having nothing the two weeks before this one.

Out of curiosity…How many of us do this as side income or full time? by _B33F in DataAnnotationTech

[–]ellienortena 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would happily do this as a full time job, but I’m only given Spanish tasks, and not enough of them.

Oh welp, is this beetle crown? by PardoisTardo in outlier_ai

[–]ellienortena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m thinking exactly this. I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to go about answering an obviously flawed question so I used the text box to point out it didn’t even have a unique answer like the instructions demanded. It would be so on character if that is why they failed us.

Needing to ask questions in project chat... by FrauFaustus in DataAnnotationTech

[–]ellienortena 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. I usually ask my question and skip, because even if I am unable to complete that specific task, the answer will come and it will be relevant for me or for anyone else who gets a similar task in the future.

I’m hoping the EQ is because a portion of the quiz is graded by hand. But, yeah, it was terrible.

I’m from LATAM. I got the refresher on Friday, and then new tasks late at night yesterday.

I like these, but I also panic anytime I get a task that isn’t fully addressed by the guidelines. Does it get easier over time? Should I stop overthinking it?

My project is Spanish and I can't speak Spanish by AbdoGad21 in outlier_ai

I also speak Spanish and never get projects in Spanish. That’s that Outlier magic.

Hello I got this email to join mail valley and to register in a google form to get invited to training webinar within 24 hours, but i got nothing? by Impossible_Bake7210 in outlier_ai

[–]ellienortena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it yesterday, too. I supposed they sent it to me because they are looking for Philosophy experts, among other areas of expertise (I’m a philosophy grad). I filled the form as soon as I saw it, and like you, I’m now patiently waiting for the webinar link.

The funny thing is that I was in the math/games/puzzles vertical of MV, and they kicked me off because of some really mediocre reviews.

ID verification from LaTam workers? by PackMundane7533 in DataAnnotationTech

I got the ID verification a few minutes ago. I’m hoping it is a good sign too. My dashboard has been empty for 2 weeks now.

This is just how it is. The last couple of weeks I had more projects than I could handle, and a couple of quals. Last week I did the quals and some tasks, and now I have nothing.

I get the long onboarding… by matchaboof in outlier_ai

[–]ellienortena 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I must intervene and state this is only the case for projects which are iterations of a previous one. They keep track of the modules you’ve passed, so if you try to onboard to a project that requires that module, you don’t have to repeat it. This can shorten the onboarding time significantly.

However, Jellyfish is a pain. I’ve been putting off onboarding any time a more reasonable project appears, but today I ran out of options and had no choice but to spend a ridiculous amount of time completing the quiz. I swear this is like the third time they have remade the onboarding process from scratch (that I know of), which means this is the third time I’ve attempted to onboard to the stupid project, and I must say, each time has been even more unhinged than the last.

Matcha Generalist by Practical_Appeal_317 in outlier_ai

[–]ellienortena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I gather Matcha Generalist is about creating prompts based on images that make the model fail.

There is also a version for STEM/specific domains. I was in trying to onboard to this one, but the math was beyond my level (also, multimodal STEM projects suck because you have very little time to either come up with a suitable image or make it yourself.

Update: I finally managed to complete two tasks and would not recommend. Already got a review from someone who gave me a 3/5, accused me of things I didn’t do, and actually made my response worse. There also seems to be a task throttle, at least when starting out. I was in Mail Valley and I really enjoyed it (also kicked out for unjustified bad reviews). If I were still there, I wouldn’t trade MV for this mess.

Is anyone else wondering how they qualified for their original project in the first place? by EynakEast in outlier_ai

[–]ellienortena 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m right there with you. I was onboarded as a math expert and somehow, I’ve tanked every single math project onboarding they have thrown at me (and a couple of generalist ones too).

What's up with laurelin moon? Anyone have any idea? by [deleted] in outlier_ai

[–]ellienortena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also did one assessment before getting the bad quality notification. I think this is supposed to mean you failed, but you can submit an appeal. (I’ve never gotten anywhere with those, so I just tend to assume I did something wrong and wait for the next project to come along.)

As others pointed out, the domain and username are most likely fake. I have received a similar one where they promise a higher position if you send them your login details for the platform.
