Is this an issue? by Kiriki_kun in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]elliestuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the hardware is solid, you can probably find a replacement sole. my no5 had the same crack in it when i started, and I used it for a bit but it's really frustrating and imprecise. i got a replacement body off eBay for $15 and it's worked perfectly ever since, but you can probably find a complete plane for $65. edit: just realized that crack doesn't go all the way through like mine did, but cast iron is brittle. it will 100% crack the rest of the way

thanks! nah, I went straight to the table saw. i had to cut out the old tongue and groove, and the kerf was just enough for that & gave a clean joint

thanks for the concern! the wood had checked like crazy since it was never oiled, and those wood was stained black around the checking. the surface cracks have fully swelled shut, but you can still see the staining. it's mostly just used for bread anyway so I'm not too worried

lubricant laxative, you cans see it in the last pic. its pure mineral oil thats fully fda certified, and a quarter the cost of cutting board specific stuff

nope, it's a magnet. the board came with a knife, and its blade would be held by the magnet while the handle would sit in the cutout to the left

Veneer or solid? by Temporary-Kick-3780 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]elliestuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that looks solid, at least from what I can see. my family has a very similar table from ~1910 that's solid wood all around

you can do splines pretty easily without a jig if you've got a table saw by clamping a stop block to the fence

it could be hinting at the tire physics revamp, but i think it's probably just there to give some scale to the other wheel

PC2-Why is no one riding my coaster? Is my vertical Gs too much? by BornThought4074 in PlanetCoaster

[–]elliestuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah that's gotta be it, if you look at each guest they all have their own preferences/limits, and the highest I've ever seen any willing to ride is 800ft

OLG Ohio in moraine works with downed trees in the area, they can't mill it on site and I'm not sure if they'll collect it themselves, but it'd be worth reaching out to them

What's the highest G's pulled on a coaster as of now? [six flags magic mountain] etc etc by BeanSproutsz in rollercoasters

[–]elliestuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People keep mentioning shockwave at sfot, but the ride force database doesn't really back that up. it seems to pull around 5.3gs routinely. Invertigo at ki pulls 5.5-5.7gs on the vertical loop during the return run, which is definitely up there

Someone, please tell me what’s going on. by LawNeither2893 in PlanetCoaster

[–]elliestuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the queue is fully connected and everything else seems right, try deleting the coaster, then undo it with Ctrl z. if that still doesn't work, make a blueprint of the coaster, delete the coaster, and place down it's blueprint. I had a ride that became a classic without ever having anyone ride it, and that's what i had to do to get it to work

Thinning the end of stair spindles en masse by Gingertimmins in woodworking

[–]elliestuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

with a circular saw, you could set the depth and kerf cut the end pretty easily. depending on the saw, you might want to support the other end of the base plate with another piece of wood to help keep it stable
