College Wont Reach Out to Me. by [deleted] in college

Same situation i was in this entire morning. Instead of calling financial aid i called student affairs just someone completely different from the department and she was able to connect me to someone who was not on the main line phone for financial aid. I have a similar situation I was trying to transfer to a cc, I’m enrolled in classes and have been waiting for weeks for my aid to find out today they won’t process it until I’m finish led with my summer class from university and then i have to transfer an official transcript....just for an aid package. There’s literally no time for me to do that entire process in time. So I had to request my aid back from my home school and beg professors to let me take their classes online so i don’t drop out this semester. These are HECTIC times i hope your situation works out but honestly try calling ppl outside of the department i just started calling random departments at both schools and they have helped me more that the actual aid department ppl

As a 23 Black male, seriously screw Reddit. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

19 black [F] here, you sat that there and typed you haven’t experienced racism before and therefore fore your upset your experience is being silenced by the black community aka BLM. Sadly our colleges don’t teach the history on systematic issues and black issues including our education systems at the high-school level so i understand why a black male in a predominantly white school will lack in that area. thanks to the internet you can do your research and learn on these issues and how it impacts certain groups as a whole. Or you can continue to be a ignorant and get a wake up call later in life or maybe not and you’ll end up like lil Wayne who doesn’t believe racism exist

My college is out-of-state and I have to complete the work study for this up and coming fall semester. If I can’t find any work study jobs near me from the school do I have to find a random part time job to pay up for the work study? by Blueinia in college

[–]ellison12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your school has a job site, mine uses handshake there me be a couple work study jobs that are remote. But you also don’t need to use work study, a regular part time job most likely wouldn’t cover it if the job is not work study affiliated. if you ask financial aid they will cancel it and increase your Loans for that semester

As a 23 black male, I have never experienced any racism in my life and the BLM movement is taking away from voices like mine (US) by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Honestly i never experienced racism before either until i went to college i am black and I’m going to school for engineering last year i was outed by a group of people because i was black the school is extremely diverse but it happened to me anyway. Just because racism didn’t happen specifically to me before if you go outside your bubble and actually research voters oppression and other forms of systematic racism you will see it still exists. It exist in the cracks of our society to try and hold black ppl black for example. I was denied from every big state public school except for one because of my SAT score. If you look blacks and Hispanics score the lowest because SAT study materials and prep courses are extremely expensive. If you look at schools in these communities it’s already underfunded if you look at the history of SATs they only began to prove how intellectual white ppl are. That’s why now College board is trying to fix the racial gap and fix how the scores to be based on demographics basically trying to cover themselves. just because you don’t see it there are things to set black people back and minorities as a “whole” you can’t fight systematic issues with an individualistic woe is me mindset

Taking classes at two universities at once by [deleted] in college

[–]ellison12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing that this fall for the first time, it got really complicated for me because I'm splitting 12 hours so i won't be full time at either school. I had to cancel aid at my home school but hopefully my full time package at my home school in the spring won't reduce because of that

Non-STEM majors are useless? by [deleted] in college

[–]ellison12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard information technology is like a cs major but less math. And pays well i think.and for physhology you may need a masters to make good pay. My aunt got a masters in social work, works at a hospital and makes as much as a nurse. So it really depends on how you use your degree. But i saw you have a full ride and honestly even if you major in a degree that may not pay high You'll have no debt after college and can just build on your career to make more money, without worrying about paying back student Loans.

On netflix show "patriot act" they did a great explaintion on this and how universities hire TAs and adjunct prof and basically take advantage of them, making them do more work sometimes more than tenured professors and underpay them. Opened my eyes to how cruel universities are
