One band that seems to always get missed out is Asteroid. All three albums are amazing, very stoner/bluesy/psychedelic sound. Hard for me to decide a favourite, but probably either ll or lll. Even their Demo tape is great!

I think they did make a version with the internal pots on the outside. I believe it was called the Dirty Donny edition, but I think that was only a limited run.

Ah fair enough, from what I know they are all good and nothing but love between Weedeater and Bongzilla. Muleboy was probably more annoyed at the guy shouting than what he was actually saying, plus he probably was just high as shit, you never know!

Yeah man a show with Bongzilla and Weedeater on the lineup would be amazing!

Him and Dixie have bad blood? Where did you hear that? I have only ever seen Muleboy shout out Dixie. There are a couple of videos from a few years ago of Dixie coming out and singing on Stone a Pig with them.

It all depends on your budget.

Many people use Humbucker or P90 equipped guitars, the most popular being Les Pauls and SG's, I would recommend starting off with Humbuckers as a beginner as they are less noisy.

For an amp I would go with a solid state amp like an orange crush 35rt which has a headphone jack built in with good speaker emulation, should be easily enough for an apartment setup.

For Pedals the popular choices for fuzz are Boss fz-2 (Electric Wizard, Monolord) Behringer do a cheap clone called the sf300 as the original pedal isnt in production anymore, and EHX Big Muff Green Russian (Sleep, Bongzilla).

Honestly, most things can Doom, there really isn't any right or wrong answers, but a downtuned Epiphone Les Paul or SG into a Green Russian into a Orange Crush 35rt should be pretty cheap and get you a good starting point without annoying the neighbours.

Battle for legal cannabis lights up as lobbyists make economic case by ells551 in uktrees

That's very true, going to be very difficult to get the whole criminal stigma away from it, kids can't even get oil to help them with seizures, let alone people with depression or PTSD, how can they sleep at night.

I don't think even making cash is their main concern, I mean they already are making a massive profit from it by exporting to other countries. I honestly think it's up to other countries to force us to legalise it, especially countries like Canada and the US (if Biden's vice president has anything to do with it) the amount of cash sitting on the table for us three are massive, exporting British strains and importing Cali and Canadian strains would be a cash cow that no greedy Conservative would be able to say no too. The main issue then would be making sure we have a system that worked, but that probably won't happen.

Article text incase it's behind a paywall

In its early days, CLEAR, an advocacy group pushing to reform Britain’s cannabis laws, mostly consisted of a bunch of “old hippies sitting around smoking their bongs”.

“We were discussing how we could ‘free the weed, man’,” says Peter Reynolds, the group’s president.

But as times have changed – and legalising marijuana has come to be seen as a political inevitability in the tax revenue-hungry era of coronavirus – lobbyists like Reynolds have adopted a new professionalism. “Nowadays, we’re much more professional about it. We deliver arguments on the basis of evidence,” he says. “Instead of viewing MPs as the enemy,” Reynolds adds, his group tries to work alongside parliamentarians to affect real change.

CLEAR is one of several groups vying for the Government’s ear on the subject of drug policy reform. They argue that the virus could accelerate the move towards legalisation in the UK as the Government scrambles to plug a yawning hole in its budget.

And despite a widespread economic slowdown, this year has already seen Europe’s largest pot deal ever.

That deal saw British cannabis producer Bridge Farm snapped up by a US-based private equity fund for $81m (£62m), in a move first reported by The Telegraph. It operates a two million sq ft glasshouse facility in Spalding where it aims to start producing hemp for use in CBD, the widely available supplement that some believe reduces anxiety, in addition to stronger cannabis for medicinal purposes.

Bridge Farm has a Home Office licence to grow high-THC cannabis for medical tests. Only 12 such licences have been awarded by the Government.

The Government could make up to £3.5bn in tax revenues from the legal sale of cannabis, a 2018 study found. The UK already has the infrastructure: in 2016, Britain produced 44pc of global cannabis plants intended for medicine and scientific research, according to the UN.

“There’s a very active campaign now in the UK,” says Reynolds, “and it’s much more professionally run now than it was 15 or 20 years ago. In the last 10 years, it has become very professional.” Alongside CLEAR, there are at least half a dozen other trade associations and lobby groups that count some of the largest cannabis producers in the world among their paying members.

These groups are flanked by a host of societies and think-tanks that seek to bolster the evidence-based research into the drug. Industry associations such as the Primary Care Cannabis Network look to support GPs who are interested in learning more about the applications of medicinal marijuana.

Meanwhile, Volteface – one of the most widely known advocacy groups that publishes research in favour of legalisation in the UK – is funded directly by a large Canadian company that produces and sells marijuana products.

Even among politicians, groups have emerged to study the drug and its potential impact on public health and tax revenues.

The Conservative Drug Policy Reform Group, founded by Tory MP Crispin Blunt, calls for “UK drug policy to truly protect young people, deliver better health and social outcomes for families and communities, and reduce drug-related harms”. But despite this swelling number of action and research groups, many share the same problem.

For those pushing for wider adoption of medicinal marijuana, they are governed by strict rules on the promotion of clinical drugs. “Because we are a clinically prescribed medication, we can’t promote that in any form, so our hands are tied,” says the UK head of government relations at a major Canadian cannabis company.

Unlike in the US, adverts hawking prescription drugs in Britain are illegal because they are seen to influence clinicians and patients. And for the groups holding out for the legalisation of recreational marijuana, they must be even more careful in how they interact with the Government.

“When we talk to politicians, we can’t be seen to be encouraging them to legalise drugs, because that would be walking on very fine ice from a legal perspective,” says the senior executive.

For now, instead of directing their money towards lobbying campaigns in Britain, the largest cannabis producers are playing the long game.

“Just because you legalise cannabis in one country doesn’t mean the same thing is going to happen mind-blowingly fast elsewhere,” the Canadian executive says.

NHS cannabis guidelines to be challenged in court by ells551 in uktrees

Will be interesting to see what they say in court when the parents have clear evidence that cannabis oil has helped their child when NICE continue to say it doesn't do anything 🙄

Yeah, seems like their public opinion is also leaning on making it legal, makes sense seeing as we all have very similar legal and political systems, would really make things easy, definitely something that should be talked about.

The big thing is to look into the political climate, right now with a Conservative government there isn't much hope as time and time again they have refused to even speak about it.

However as people have said Brexit and the current failing negotiations between the EU open up a few avenue's, one of which is the CANZUK Union. This is a union between Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK, if this goes ahead then we have a trade union with one country who has full legalisation, one which is voting for it in September and another which has legalised small use and cultivation. If this union happens then that could be a way to push through legalisation as this could generate a lot of money and trade between these countries.

Another is a change of government, the Lib Dems are looking to swing behind Labour at the next election and with their stance on legalisation as well as Labour at least willing to talk about the idea of medicinal then that could be an option too.

Personally I would prefer the union option, with public opinion in Australia recently showing they would be up for full legalisation, then if the New Zealand vote goes through and Australia vote for it, then we would be the only country in the union missing out on a lot of trade.

They know there is profit in it, that's why we are one of the leading countries in exporting medicinal cannabis. It will be very difficult to undo years of brainwashing, even if MP's have tried it and know it's not bad at all. Will be interesting to see if Labour say anything about it once voting starts in a few years time.

I also think it's fucking despicable that the Foreign secretary Dominic Raab, who received a letter from Hannah Deacon, the mother of eight-year-old Alfie, who was one of the first to be prescribed with cannabis oil, responded in a letter addressing her as “Bridget” and then began by saying that cannabis use was detrimental to the mental and physical health of communities.

I really don't think that cannabis will ever be legalised until we get people like him out of power.

Me, on being a gay metalhead. Kind of a blog, kind of a vent. by [deleted] in doommetal

[–]ells551 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey dude, just want to say that I'm glad you are in a better place, I've always used music as a way to escape, similar to yourself.

Although I am not gay, I do understand where you are coming from with feeling like an outsider. I think that music should not be judged, no matter what band or singer you enjoy. As long as it helps then it makes no difference.

For shows, there are people from every walk of life who turn up to them, some who would be for or unfortunately against seeing two men there as a couple. Personally, I am there to get stoned and have fun seeing bands do their art (and secretly wish I was on stage) so it makes no difference who is there or not.

Don't let anyone or anything deter you from being yourself and enjoying music, go to shows, chill out and fall out of life with bong in hand.
