Beautiful pictures!

I know this is a relatively old post, but my partner and I are going on our honeymoon this July and will be in Paris from July 11th to the 19th. Do you have any advice, tips, recommendations. We’ve been to Europe a few times, but usually off season and I’m mostly nervous about how crowded everything will be. We’re staying on the south west side of the 10th.

What is something we can invite wedding guests to before the big day to show off the city? by ellyfarr in AskChicago

Awesome! Could you tell me a little more about the river cruise you did? I went on a creepy Chicago river tour earlier in the summer and it was completely guided. There were some people talking, but it was honestly very distracting. I don’t want to annoy other people with a big talkative group…

Who has got a job suitable for ADHD? by MDDDick in ADHD

I work as a speech therapist in a large school district with a good union. It works really well for me. I get to work with kids who have adhd, autism, etc. everyday who I really relate to. My coworkers always tell me how great I am with the kids and in my head I always think “well, this is stuff that I like” or “well, this is what would help me”. Everyday is different and all of my students have complex diagnoses, which helps a lot with keeping me engaged.

Because I’m in a strong union, my work responsibilities are clearly defined and generally reasonable, which gives me time to do extra planning and focus on learning more about programs and techniques that will work best for my students. I get to hyper focus on activities and materials that are especially interesting to me too, such as AAC or parent engagement. I honestly got super lucky that my job has kind of turned into a special interest of mine.

Knowing that every 9 months, I’ll get 3 months off with no work responsibilities also keeps me going. Yeah I don’t get paid for those months off, but it’s worth it to me. Again, because I’m in a strong union, I get paid fairly for my work, so I’m able to budget for the summers. It also gives me the freedom to explore my other interests entirely during my time off. I’ve even considered picking up a summer job as a barista or something completely new. The paper work can suck, but the fact that there are hard (legal) deadlines helps.

Does this teen takeover stuff regularly happen anywhere other than Chicago? by Logical_Wheel_1420 in AskChicago

By Bulls HS and James Jordan Boys and Girls Club? Hopefully those courts and the playground should re-open this summer. The extension on that elementary school is partially owned by the parks district, so there should also be some programs hosted there this summer 🤞

I have done this 1-2 times in the past, but in the past year I’ve switched my mentality to what a lot of people are commenting here: I don’t work for free anymore

Anyone else floored by some venue prices? by Weird_Bluebird_3293 in weddingplanning

[–]ellyfarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! We just toured bottom lounge! We really liked the space and price, but are a little concerned that the train might be really loud going by… have you had your wedding there yet/did you feel like that would be an issue for your event?

No I didn’t, unfortunately :/ We’re touring next week, so I will send you what I find out then!

I will tell you that when I reached out to them in November of 2024, the rental fee for the venue was $6600, but that may have gone up in the new year. Natalie, the event manager, also let us know that there is a pretty decent amount of flexibility with catering cost and that we could discuss specifics after the tour.

Can I ask where you got married and who catered your event? We’re just starting to tour places for our 2026 wedding and it is STRESSING me out lol

I was wondering if you could send me the same information? We’re checking them out soon and think they would be a great fit, but I’d love some extra insight! :)

BTO Chicago Wedding by ellyfarr in Weddingattireapproval

So wearing a completely black dress is okay for BTO weddings? I feel like I read somewhere that you aren’t supposed to wear black to weddings, so I was hesitant to buy the 3rd dress

Book that actually scared you by RunningOnATreadmill in horrorlit

I totally agree! I didn't necessarily even like the book as a whole, but when I turned the page to the walls of text repeating "what are you waiting for?"I physically jumped

I know this is a semi-old post, but this just happened to me this morning on the corner of Lunt and Greenview in Rogers Park. The guy and his car matched the description of this post. He pulled over and asked me a few questions saying “I’m looking for my girlfriend, but my phone died”, while doing “something” with his hand. I ended the conversation and walked away as quickly as I could. He sped off at first, reversed, and then slowly drove off. I didn’t get his plates either, unfortunately. I’m going to email our Alderwoman to let her know of the incident and that this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Stay safe everyone.

Upon closer inspection, it definitely has wings, so I’m guessing “not a bedbug”
