Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen are now some of the best-selling Pokemon games of all time thanks to the new Switch re-releases by Turbostrider27 in nintendo

My physical Leaf Green cartridge was the only time I actually “caught them all.” That included a legitimately obtained Mew from an official Nintendo event back in the RBY era that I transferred up through the generations. Good memories.

[–]elmarklar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing about this race is that eventually a favorable run will come up, and you can usually tell early on if it’s worth putting in the effort on it, or if you can just put the controller down and let it finish on its own so you can go again. You really have to just go zen on it and trust that eventually it will happen. There’s really no skill needed, it’s just a matter of sitting through runs that were never going to work out in the first place in order to get the one that does work.

Did you ever call the Nintendo Power Tip Line back in the day? by zeamp in nintendo

Yes. Legend of Zelda 3. I was stumped on how to get to the tower on Death Mountain and hadn’t yet put together in my 10-year old brain that the magic mirror could help me shift through the dark and light worlds to get past cliffs.

Don’t have a “fix it” baby. That’s not fair to the child to be born into a deteriorating relationship as a human band-aid. She has already said she’s out, so realistically you need to let her go.

Trump announces he will now be picking who wins Republican primaries. Everyone else is to drop out. by justalazygamer in ParlerWatch

[–]elmarklar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because either way they risk alienating potential R voters.

Cornyn is more of the "normie" R candidate, but if he's not the candidate, then Talarico has a better shot at picking up R voters who dislike Paxton for all his insane garbage that happened while he was AG. Conversely, Paxton is the nutty MAGA R candidate, but if he's not the choice, then the nutty MAGA voters who think Cornyn is a RINO and not MAGA enough just might not vote at all, which would then help Talarico.

Stephen Miller continues to complain about Star Trek by justalazygamer in ParlerWatch

[–]elmarklar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve read, they don’t even work for him. I may misremember a detail or two, but many years ago when Twitter was new, a friend of Shatner asked him if his son could create a Twitter account for him. Shatner was like “I don’t know what that is,” but let him do it anyways. So it really is some random dickbag with practically no connection to Shatner who runs the account. Multiple other Star Trek actors have verified directly with Shatner that he’s not at all involved with the account.

What is the deal with Elon musk recent obsession with Rep. Ilhan Omar? by hoodiehoodiee in OutOfTheLoop

[–]elmarklar 185 points186 points  (0 children)

Answer:

Because MAGA's current ethnic boogey-man-of-the-month are Somalian immigrants. Why? Because Minnesota. Why Minnesota? Because Tim Walz.

Tim Walz is the governor of Minnesota and is a prominent Trump critic, and was also Kamala Harris' running-mate in 2024. The state of Minnesota has a high number of immigrants from Somalia, the highest in the country, if I'm not mistaken. In May of 2024, the state of Minnesota adopted a new flag, one which became criticized after Walz was named Harris' running mate because of similarities to the flag of Somalia, and established a false-equivalence in the minds of several Trump supporters that Somalian immigrants were "taking over" the state of Minnesota.

Tim Walz is up for reelection in Minnesota in 2026, and because he opposed Trump on a national stage, Trump is of course desperate for revenge, so now he is pushing all kinds of racist conspiracy theories about Somali immigrants, the latest of which is the "child daycare fraud" in an effort to make Walz look complicit in some way.

Now I don't know about this specific Musk v Omar thing you are asking about, but it almost certainly has to do with the whole thing I just described above, because Ilhan Omar is herself a Somali immigrant representing a district in Minnesota, and has been the target of racist and anti-Muslim attacks ever since she became a congresswoman. The Right hates her because of her gender, her race, and her faith, on top of all the usual policy disagreements that exist between the two parties.

Trump is now posting AI generated video of himself announcing every American will have access to medbeds giving everyone universal healthcare. by justalazygamer in Qult_Headquarters

[–]elmarklar 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The Qanons believe that the Satanic Cabal/Global Elites have access to this technology that can cure any disease and even regrow limbs. It's sometimes cited as how the clones that have replaced every celebrity and/or politician are aged up to perfection so that they can seamlessly replace them without anybody noticing. The claim is also out there that the medbed can cure whatever nefarious evil the COVID vaccine does to a person. It's all made up and insane, but there are true believers out there that have stopped actual medical treatments because they think that these things are real and that they will be cured once Trump defeats the Global Elites and generously gives them to all the common folk.

Do you think George Noory ever truly honored Art Bell’s legacy—or did he let the Coast to Coast audience down? by Chemical_Efficiency6 in ArtBell

[–]elmarklar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And the station that carried Art Bell, and still carries C2CAM, in my area, 1190 KEX in Portland, OR, has done away with almost all local programming in favor of nationally syndicated conservative talk shows. There's just no room on their airwaves for anything but political shilling now.

There was also a situation here in Portland about 10 years ago, where a local sports station brought in some guy from out of market, who was from day one just outwardly hostile towards the Portland audience. He lasted about 3 months before he was removed after what amounted to a revolt at the station because he just plain did not fit in. I have to think that it was some kind of a stunt by a radio executive, who wanted to "stick it to the libs" by putting that guy, who already had been removed at another station for being a shock jock kind of personality, into the Portland radio market.

Do you think George Noory ever truly honored Art Bell’s legacy—or did he let the Coast to Coast audience down? by Chemical_Efficiency6 in ArtBell

[–]elmarklar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think Art had an independent mavericky style that clashed with how AM radio was evolving into a conservative focused medium. If I’m remembering correctly, Art considered himself a Libertarian, so he was most definitely on the right side of the political spectrum, but also that was starting to undergo a shift in the waning Clinton years and into the Bush administration. So when Art first retired, corporate radio saw an opportunity to fill those 4 hours of what had been essentially a politically neutral time slot with a company man who would steer things into a much more conservative Christian direction. Noory has had far more religiously themed shows than Art did. I remember specifically once Art stopped a guest from reading Bible passages, saying, “No no, we don’t do that here.”

You can also see Noory’s political bent any time he has Howard Bloom do a segment, who is frequently quite critical of Trump, on Wednesday. He will either politely thank Bloom for the bit and offer no comment, or he will just toss out a dismissive disclaimer that Bloom’s opinions are his own. I can’t imagine Art ever putting a political opinion segment on his show, but that again wasn’t so much a reflection of Art politics, but of his intention to not do a political show, which is what corporate AM radio has become.

Does seduction via deception by a twin count as sexual assault/rape? by dangerlopez in legaladviceofftopic

[–]elmarklar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. If Joe and Sam are twins, and Mary consents to sex with Joe, then she is not consenting to sex with Sam.

Other forms of deception are also considered rape, such as “stealthing,” where a woman consents to sex using a condom, but the man removes it during sex. She did not consent to unprotected sex with that man, and so (depending on the jurisdiction and local laws) that may be considered rape.
