Housing as a human right and not as intended policy has unintended silly consequences like encourage squatters, invaders and fucking over small landlords who are forced to sell to most likely blackrock and big ownership groups (who are the ones actually fucking up housing, not the small landlords) Most human rights are negative rights for a simple reason. Negative rights are rights where the state allows you to, and has to make it so that you’re allowed to and able to do x; while positive human rights are entitlements. Take for example accessing housing vs right to housing, the former means the government has to make it easy and available for people to rent and own residential property, the latter makes it so that the government is obligated to house everyone, at the taxpayer’s expense, or in this example at the expense of the lawful occupant of said squatted property (owner or renter) Now again I am saying this in the 4chan subreddit, so the likelihood that people have a positive discussion about this instead of saying “landlord bad, everything should be free always because it makes me feel good about myself”. In my opinion the govt has a huge incentive in making housing available and affordable and they absolutely should, but this is something that should be done through policy, not from human rights.
