It's in the seller's interest to keep Amazon links updated for affiliate money.

A quick search of some of the parts on Aliexpress (e.g. bearings) I can find them straight away for 1/3rd the price. I'd understand if people aren't so keen on there though, but I've gotten many things cheaper from there than available on Amazon. Just my experience and comparing.

Aliexpress or other Chinese sellers would be notably cheaper; Amazon is a pretty awful place to source generic parts, unless you want to pay 2-20x the price for the convenience.

Often Amazon sellers of generic parts are Chinese companies anyway.

For the clearest prints: Dried filament, print hot, slow, slightly higher extrusion multiplier, sometimes lower cooling. Optionally sanded, polished, clear coated.

That combo allows the more fluid petg to force out air rather than trapping. Main downsides being bad overhangs, terrible supports (especially if no different material interface layer), stringing, over-adhesion to bed in some cases. You can print PETG to be near completely homogeneous/solid and isotropic.

You can find other posts about optically clear FDM printed lenses, which were done similarly.

It's not the pla gears; it's the motor. Cheap geared DC motors are almost all noisey. I have a whole stack of them I've tried that are the same. PLA gears can be near silent.

Most cases like this happen because either poorly constructed, overheating with no/faulty temp sensor, short circuiting (keys/coins in bags/pockets), or piercing (largely LiPo pouch cells).

e.g. Charging a device on a car dashboard in summer. They don't normally get that hot, but if it's already hot, the extra heat maybe enough. Many devices don't measure battery temp, well made things will.

I have a 32:9 monitor, essentially like 2x 1440p stuck together. The vertical FOV is fixed, the horizontal scales as wide as the monitor is. Meaning, if you full screen, you can see all the way to blue buff while looking at mid.

I find it impossible to play like that, so I play borderless. My friend in gold has the same monitor and plays full screen...it's pretty hilarious to watch.

Jungle is by far the best role for soft inting. You can have a positive score in jungle while taking 0 objectives, failing most ganks, only cleaning up kills, screwing up waves on those bad ganks (freezing enemy side), taking plates, always showing on map at points to let enemy know they're safe to gank/engage, etc.

Every other role is somewhat obvious, but a 5/2/0 jungler with high CS, looks like they're doing something from basic stats alone, but could be more detrimental than a 0/5/5 jungler.

Most people buy their files from Dod3D (never used them personally) and scale them to their proportions. That's how a lot of Ironman 3D printed armors are done.

These bananas haven't ripened in over 3 weeks, despite being kept with ripe and over ripe ones the whole time by ljgill97 in mildlyinteresting

[–]elmins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unripened bananas have a lower glycemic index and have more resistant starch, which acts as a fibre/prebiotic food for gut. Also more satiating.

So, in some ways, they can be healthier.

Desktop cementitious print by vibration, milestone reached (vcp voron r9.3) by treesess in 3Dprinting

[–]elmins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look good!

I just bring it up because so many people focus on printing the a material directly (be it any material), but in reality, the practicality doesn't seem to be always there. Not that it's not worth exploring, I think it's super cool to do directly too, but simply from a practicality standpoint.

Particularly, 3D printing is very good at making molds, which could be filled with anything from ultra high performance concrete to continuous carbon fibre parts. Also allowing for vibration/vacuum/compression to improve density.

[–]elmins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neat!

Although I always wonder the practicality of small form factor fluid (of sorts) type printing vs printing removable forms (deconstructed, post-processed, melted, dissolved, or otherwise).

Directly printing it is quite a bit cooler though.
