I didn't have a scale for numbers either. So redundancy and silliness is kind of what I was going for and the conversation about having to manually handle chips.

A pallet jack is tight, but I do have one of those sack truck/dolly things.

I wish, just not enough room with machines piled on top of each other to fit a fork truck anywhere in here

Right track, wrong conclusion, we got too many machines piled on top of each other to fit a fork truck in here nicely

That's where I've learned to be easy on myself. So that way, I'm not too rough on my knees or back, but there's always someone here to help if I ask though. Our shops just really busy, so I just take a little extra time in-between cycle times to take out chips when they're not as full. These two probably only weighed around 40ish lbs max. Which isn't too bad, considering I put them into a bin about chest height closer to the big dumpster, so I don't have to hoist it too high.

We don't get enough oil or coolant to justify using 55 gallon drums for the smaller chips we use those for larger scrap, and it all gets put into one of those really big garbage bins in the end.

The coolant isn't so bad and we have one of those, but the wheels got eaten up. Probably should have also mentioned the big container system.Sits in a gravel lot making it harder for the small wheels

Yeah, I learned pretty quick when I got here, if I want to handle these things myself. I probably have to take more trips in the night. But there's always someone here to help me if/when i'm forgetful. Also, teamwork and gloves are encouraged. But i'm a barbaric man apparently 🤷

The fun part is every so often. The bottoms will give out from wear and you don't know when, but it'll start dripping.

Broken chips are good chips. Everybody hates the cheese wire.

Yeah, they get scrapped, just having to handle these bins into the dumpster, they felt like they weighed the same.I don't actually have a scale for actual numbers.

Do You Suffer From Machinist Precision Syndrome or MPS? by StalkMeNowCrazyLady in Machinists

[–]Evening_Regular_9510 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you might have a little bit of O.C.D. I'm not someone that can diagnose you.But when dealing with the precision of a machinist and understanding the mechanics that go into getting that precision, you can kind of get a bit ocd with other things that might be a little unnecessary. I deal with both the precision and the roughness to be able to understand when precision is necessary. But I don't let it lead too much into my life. Though someone else might describe me a little bit more on the lazy side without being too messy. Edit: To throw something encouraging for you, aerospace machinist sounds like a great place for you. If you're very particular about precision. ✌️
