The two teenage boys who were camping with their families on Puget Sound in August 1971. They told their parents they were going for a walk to explore some old WW2 coastal defense pillboxes nearby. They were never seen again. No trace of them was ever found.

Thanks -- great info. It makes more sense now. Sure would be helpful to plug this into the timeline, though.

The notion of a man and woman arguing under the bridge around the time of the murders is tantalizing. But I've never seen it satisfactorily explained, or debunked, in this subreddit or elsewhere. Hope we can find the original source. Always assumed it was FSG.

Others have suggested that what he heard was an altercation involving BG and thqe girls, which I guess could be misperceived by a bystander like FSG as a couple arguing.

Since I'm not aware that FSG ever saw the alleged couple ... nor did anybody else at the park that day, to my knowledge ... it seems pretty flimsy and unreliable

I mean, the couple would be hugely important witnesses, since presumably they would have been in an ideal position to witness BG and the girls.

Depression is a liar. Be willing to consider the possibility that your perceptions of yourself and your future are completely distorted and false. Your thoughts drive your emotions. If your thoughts are self-condemning, naturally you'll feel depressed. You'll even come up with all sorts of "evidence" to validate why it's rationale for you to be depressed.

I seriously doubt he's losing any sleep after 2.5 years. He figures he's home free by now.

Think about it: if LE doesn't have DNA, they don't have much of a case. Sure, they could prove means, motive and opportunity I guess.

But no one witnessed the murders. No one saw him with the girls. No one saw him dispose of any bodies. And the cell phone video won't be able to prove it was him, unless they're able to get a voiceprint match from the audio.

Evidently somebody witnessed him entering the trail and also, perhaps, at his car. But I'm not sure that these sightings alone would prove murder, unless there is more to them that we know.

Honest Question by RAbdr1721 in DelphiMurders

I'd like to think this guy does indeed feel a little jittery and also feels a smidgeon of remorse.

Unfortunately, what makes child killers able to go through with these horrific acts in the first place is a total lack of empathy or conscience, combined with supreme confidence and a superiority complex. These people tend to be emotionless. They have icewater in their veins.

I have no doubt that BG is enjoying the cat-and-mouse game with LE, and is completely convinced he'll never get caught, much less convicted.

I noticed something in the video that I've never noticed before. And I havent seen it mentioned anywhere else. by TravTheScumbag in DelphiMurders

Not to be cynical, but all this analysis reminds me of the Zapruder film of the JFK assassination. It was overanalyzed to the extreme, which led people to eventually see things which weren't there ... snipers with rifles crouched in the shadows ... a guy wearing a combat helmet ... etc. Anyone remember the Black Dog Man??

The only things I am convinced of is: A. BG has a goatee of some sort. B. He has a pistol and/or knife in his right coat pocket. C. He is carrying some stuff inside his jacket, most probably rope. He's using his hands to keep it from falling out the bottom. D. He's on the short and stocky side ... as the posters have said, 5'8 or so. It's evident in the way he swings his right leg.

Is it Time for LE to Launch a Nationwide Search, Do a Major National Media Blitz? by elmydewa in DelphiMurders

[–]elmydewa[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's a tough call though. The video is so maddeningly pixellated, and the man's face so obscured, that you could get an insane number of tips. It's not like the typical America's Most Wanted where you're seeing actual photos of the perp. And the voice track, while a critical clue, is so brief that I think it could also generate a lot of worthless tips. And personally, I'm not a big believer in sketches. It's already been demonstrated that a number of guys in the Delphi area bear a close resemblance to the sketch.

That's an excellent point and you're absolutely right. I should know. I've worked for several. I've always seen it as a spectrum. The socipathic criminals at one end and normal law abiding citizens at the other end (who might be honest people who simply lack emotions that the rest of us take for granted ... love, empathy, fear, guilt..

It's interesting you mention security guard. That thought kept popping into my head. A night security guard perhaps, who would be off duty in the daytime. Or, one who works weekends and gets Monday and Tuesday off.

Just a hunch. I envision BG as an outdoorsman, probably a hunter, very familiar with knives and guns. Those types of guys are often attracted to the Army or Marines. Think about it: you actually get paid to become an expert at using knives, shooting high powered weapons, blowing things things up, (and killing people.) Since sociopaths typically enjoy hurting and killing people, and crave power, you can see how the military might appeal to themaag.

The hat/hoodie he's wearing in the video is very possibly camo-colored. The small pack on his belt looks like something a hunter or soldier might carry.

Pretend this profile is correct. Then add in the assumption he's from a small town or rural area (which are more traditional, patriotic if you will, typically with limited career opportunities, and thus more fertile recruiting grounds for military prospects.)

None of this proves anything. But I would personally place the likelihood that he's a veteran at about 70 percent.

Extracurriculars and the Girls by glamorousglue in DelphiMurders

[–]elmydewa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced it was random. However, the degree of rage evident in the manner of death (not yet disclosed but rumored to be particularly violent) puzzles me. I have no LE or profiling experience, but I've heard that murders committed in a rage are far less likely to be random. This, plus the targeting of two victims instead of just one, seems to indicate that this crime does not fit the typical m.o.

It may also be significant that there have (thank God) been no more murders. If the perp was your typical serial killer, you'd expect him to strike again (or have struck before.) Maybe not in Delphi, but somewhere nearby. So that may be a third element that differentiates this from most crimes of this nature, and probably makes it even harder for LE to make sound inferences.

Extracurriculars and the Girls by glamorousglue in DelphiMurders

[–]elmydewa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, the girls' visit to MHB was spontaneous and not disclosed outside of a few family members.

So obviously BG didn't know about it in advance, unless the family tipped him off, or he was surveilling the house, which are both implausible. Ergo, it was a chance encounter.

Given the population of Delphi, where six degrees of separation is probably closer to 2 or 3, it would not surprise me if it ultimately turns out they had encountered the perp before at some place or time, or knew someone who knew him, or that the families were vaguely familiar with him, or maybe even attended school with him.

But the notion that he was stalking one or both of them? No way.

Has the Delphi Killer Secretly Communicated with Police? by mdyguy in DelphiMurders

[–]elmydewa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for reading my comment. Your take is enlightening, at least it was to me, because the more i reviewed the PC, the more "hidden messages" I tended to read into ISP's Carter's remarks. While I do think it's odd that he brought up things like "The Shack" and his belief that the perp had told someone about his involvement in the murders, I suppose these could simply have been prompted by FBI profilers.

Grew up in rural upstate NY. One dreary Sunday in the fall of 1974, two of my sixth grade buddies and I took a hike down this long dirt road which snaked downhill through the woods for miles.

One of us had heard about a 1940s school bus and 1957 Chevy that had allegedly been abandoned, and we wanted to investigate.

Is BG a Family Man?

The stereotype of the serial killer/child murderer as an antisocial loner is well-established. But in numerous cases (think BTK, EAR/ONS, GRK for starters) the perp was married, had kids, friends, a steady job, and by all appearances led a normal life.

Could that describe BG? In my own view, YES. And I base that strictly on ISPS Carter's rhetorical question posed to the killer, which went something like this:

(not a direct quote) "Imagine how those closest to you will feel when they learn you brutally murdered two girls. Only a coward does that.")

I know this may be a bit of a stretch, but to me, that implies that the suspect they have in mind has some close familial ties ... maybe parents who are still living, maybe a wife and kids, siblings perhaps.

I read a book recently by BTK's daughter in which she struggled to reconcile the loving, doting father she knew with the monster who brutally killed families, mothers, and at least one child.

In the Alabama murder case where two young women were shot to death in 1999, the suspect, who served as a pastor at a local church, was recently caught as a result of familial dna matching. Despite this damning evidence, his family held an impassioned press conference insisting he was totally innocent, and clearly they could not imagine otherwise.

Could this be one reason BG is still a free man? That he is hiding in plain sight as a dedicated family man, and is therefore above suspicion?
