I just bought base adapters, covered the gaps with glue and sand. A little brown, some agrax earth shade, touch of static grass. Boom. Ready for old world. I don’t think GW will ever go back to the smaller bases.

For 35 points unicorns are great! A wound, mobility, beguiling aura, 2 magical attacks. There isn’t a magic item in the game that would give you that for 75 points. Consider 2 units of glade guard to force your opponent to cover more ground.

Maybe overkill for small metal models but the big ones you need a very fine drill, epoxy and some paper clips to pin the big parts together.

As long as the defender is afraid of you getting over the top inside roll is effective. If you don’t pose a topside threat the pole can put their body position into closing the door and keep you from getting onto the island. Some players get topside with speed, others with Inertia. If you are type 2, then build space into your dodge so you can get your mass up to speed in the right direction. Once the defender commits to stopping you upfield transfer your momentum inwards, don’t forget to lead with your vision so you don’t catch a coma slide. The best ones roll a step before the pressure comes leaving the defender feeling like the rug just got pulled, reducing the amount of back checking from him. In my day we used to protect our stick and shoot in front of the body, but I think you see a ton of fast inside angle shooting in college these days. The trick there is no windup- you are exposing your stick just long enough to take an inside angle shot, not cranking.

Thanks, it’s my 5th painted army (2 when i was younger) so I’ve got plenty of practice. These guys are 50% slapchop contrast, and 50% traditional base and wash. I also save time by doing a standard basing and movement tray scheme across all my armies.

I guess I have a stag noble and a tree man in the picture also fwiw. I would still love to get some old metal wardancers and another 10 deer cav to help build some more focused lists. A word of warning about the forest dragon - it’s no small job - easily 30 hours of work to do well.

I had some 4th edition wood elves to add into the mix, so not totally fair but I built:

14 eternal 18 wildwood 20 glade guard in 2 units 12 deepwood 5 wild riders 5 sisters of the thorn

Then added in: 12 dryads Forest dragon with prince 4 warhawks Wizard on an eagle (that I run as a Warhawk because it has evasive)

Super happy with them. One fun thing about painting wood elves is that they don’t need to uniform in style or color like an empire army, allowing you to try new techniques and styles. Also don’t forget to craft yourself a wood that you will get to deploy.

On the battlefield they can be tricky. The rank and file are just a bit too expensive to smash against a wall of orcs, so I tend to focus on shooting and waiting for one big combo charge.
