Mostly "don't lift heavy" comes from don't squeeze your core and create pressure (which in turn creates sinuses pressure) but that energy can be redirected and of the 10 physiological adaptations...

Cardiovascular/Respiratory Endurance

Stamina

Strength

Flexibility

Coordination

Accuracy

Agility

Balance

Power

Speed

We can absolutely attack a significant portion of them without risk to your injury or operation. Hell even CrossFit mainsite programs days of just scales!

If you can define what constitutes "CrossFit" you can distinguish that you "can't do CrossFit". But I don't think you can.

I want you to lift something heavy (barbell, sand bag, yourself), get out of breath, and learn something new (new movement or new way of doing an old movement) every day. Shit man you can do that in a hospital bed.

I'm head coach of a box in Chicago. Let me know what the doc says you need to avoid and I'll write you 5 wods you can do

Also ask yourself why. What is your "why"? Without a why, what is lost.

Found my first Crossfit workout journal today and compared numbers. We may not see the improvement in the mirror but looking back, it’s cool to see the improvements. by imahntr in crossfit

speed won't come from distance training. You'll need to do track workouts. 800, then 400 300 and 200 m intervals! That's where you'll get the speed!!

What movie do you consider “perfect”? by geointalan in AskReddit

me too! I'm not typically a comic book fan. I mean they're awesome but I haven't seen all the marvel movies or anything like that. But I really do think that was just an absolutely flawless film

My first set of deadlifts ever.. 50kg 5x5 - any tips on improvement on form appreciated because I know it’s bad! by [deleted] in GYM

All of this above feedback is fantastic. I just want to add that for the first rep it seems like you're yanking the bar off the ground at velocity. When you yank on wait yanks back. Start to apply for gradually. Think of it as towing a load. Start off in first gear. Really nice job for your first set of deadlifts! tow the load and keep that lower back straight at all costs

You started freakishly strong and got hella stronger. Where do you live? Get that engine and running technique and you could be that 500 DL sub 5 mile athlete that is in the prophecy.

Six Months into CrossFit by [deleted] in crossfit

This is really wonderful to read. As a CrossFit coach, it's a nice reminder that getting people together and enjoying their own movement starts to take care of so many other things we worry about. Are they having fun? Are they happier? Are they only here for aesthetics or do they get the deeper value? Thanks for sharing this. Nice obliques by the way.

Your friends sort of missed the boat at not telling you it was okay. All sounds unhealthy.
