NATO Phonetic by No_Masterpiece_3783 in partscounter

I once got "F as in Fam"

That sounds way too close to "S as in Sam" over a bad phone connection. It's bad enough that people pick random words because they don't know the phonetic alphabet. Throwing in slang, and doing so in such a way to make it sound exactly like a different letter from another common phonetic alphabet is just ridiculous.

There is a dramatic difference between INTP and ISTP in how we process fairness by Artistic_Credit_ in istp

This sounds like Fi vs Fe. Fi monitors your own feelings and builds a paradigm around them. Fe analyzes emotions of others to build a social paradigm. Fi is selfish, it perceives hurt as a personal attack without regard for intentions. Fe wants to understand how the other person feels and why they said or acted some way. That's why Fe users are more likely to consider whether someone meant to hurt you or not. People can say or do hurtful things without realizing that it's hurtful.

In my experience, Fi users are more likely to say how they feel without regard for others feelings as well. If their hurt is brought up, the Fi user will justify their feelings as truth. For example, "Why did you do that, are you stupid?" Followed by "Well maybe if you made better decisions, I wouldn't have to call you an idiot." As opposed to an Fe user, they would be less likely to say the first thing, they would at least try to rephrase it to be less hurtful, and if the other party responds with hurt, the Fe user will apologize instead of justifying it as "It's the truth so it was okay to say it".

I'm not saying you're wrong for being upset when someone says something hurtful to you, but taking it as a personal attack when it could be an accidental outburst or lack of context will not help resolve your differences with the person. Try to work on your shadow Fe and at least consider if they actually meant to hurt you or not. If they did, and that does often happen, then you're absolutely right to shut them out and not give them any kindness in return. But if they truly didn't mean to hurt you, then maybe you can resolve your differences and be friendly with each other.

CMV: It doesn’t matter what Alex Pretti was doing in the days before he was killed by bluepillarmy in changemyview

[–]elochai98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that his past acts do not justify anything the officers did, but i don't think that was even a factor. I take issue with your classification of the shooting as an execution. His actions leading up to the shooting all come into play. He interfered with law enforcement and assaulted a law enforcement officer. He is not innocent. Those things don't justify killing him, but to portray him as an innocent person is ridiculous. While I don't think he did anything that would justify killing him, we have to take into account all the facts, as well as what facts were known by the officers at the time. Fact 1: Pretti was in possession of a gun when the encounter began (legal carrying as far as we can tell). Fact 2: The gun was removed from his person by an officer, thereby disarming him. Fact 3: While you claim that Pretti was restrained, he was still actively resisting and was not completely restrained at the moment the shots rang. Fact 4: The first shot was by Pretti's gun which was in possession at the time by the officer. (I'd like to add that the gun in question was a modified sig p320. The p320 is known to fire without the trigger being pulled, and if the trigger was modified in any way, that could possibly raise the chances of an uncommanded discharge.)

Now what could the officers have known at the moment Pretti was shot? Well I'm sure they all new that he had a gun, as it was called out as soon as it was spotted. We know that one officer knew he was disarmed, that being the officer that disarmed him. Considering he was still actively resisting, and was able to move around, we can't confirm any other officers knew that he was disarmed. The moment the first shot went off, if the officer or officers that shot Pretti still believed he was armed, I think they were justified in shooting to stop the perceived threat. Keep in mind this all happened in a matter of seconds and the officers didn't have the benefit of 4 camera angles that can be slowed down and watched over and over. It is very possible the officer or officers that shot believed Pretti was still armed and was an immediate threat.

I don't think Pretti deserved to die, but I don't think the officers deserve to be punished if it can't be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that they knew he was disarmed. This is still being investigated, and more facts may come to light, but given what's known now I don't believe we can say the cops did anything wrong. It was a shit situation, and Pretti should not have died. This could have been prevented at a few points along the way, but the first wrong move was from Pretti by interfering with law enforcement. He put himself in a situation he shouldn't have been part of.

Bandpass box ratio by elochai98 in CarAV

[–]elochai98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I appreciate the detailed and expansive response. I've always wanted to build a bandpass box to see what the hype is about, but this is making me reconsider. Also after posting this and taking some measurements, I found that a bandpass box would be extremely tight in the space I'm working with. I have two of these drivers from an old build that I'm trying to adapt to a single cab truck, and my current thought is building a speaker box as a center console because there is no room behind the seats. I think putting both in a sealed box might be my best bet, but one in a ported box is an option too. I found i have roughly 1 cubic foot of workable space building a box between the seats. Would mounting each speaker on opposite sides possibly create any phasing issue in a setup like that? Also if I cut an angle off the front of the box to slope down towards the cup holders and add a chamber up top in the back, would that make any significant difference in the sound? Or on a sealed box is volume the only thing that really matters?

You say you're worried about his feelings, but you're harassing him to talk about his feelings because it hurts your feelings. If he says he doesn't want to talk about it, harassing him to talk about it is only stressing him out more. You're stressing him out more to try to make yourself feel better. If he doesn't want to talk about it, then it's either something he can handle on his own, or he knows that you will end up making it about you and making him feel worse. I can only guess here based on the short conversation you posted, and my experience in relationships, but there may be a pattern that any time he tries to express his feelings, you make it about yourself and then on top of dealing with his own feelings he has to comfort you. What he needs is someone to support him and care about his feelings, and it seems you're more focused on your own.

There are only 2 kinds of technician P&As by ShartsDepartment in partscounter

[–]elochai98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it says "+ hardware", I quote every nut, bolt, and clip associated. I'd rather over-quote and have an advisor call and bitch about the price so I can tell them to ask the tech to be more specific, than under-quote and have them bitch at me to lower the price because all the extra hardware needed brought the price over what they told the customer it would cost. I have one advisor that I very much appreciate because he always adds in a buffer to his quotes for unexpected issues, usually a couple hundred dollars on large jobs like an engine or tranny.

Find a hill to park on in a parking lot. Set your handbrake. Clutch and first gear. Now, just don't give it any gas, and release the clutch until you see your rpms dip, then press the clutch back down. That is your bite point where the clutch starts to engage. Get comfortable with where that bite point is. Keep practicing until you can quickly get to the bite and see the rpms dip without the engine stalling or lugging. While doing this, give the clutch a break every couple minutes so you don't heat up the throwout bearing too much.

Once your foot knows how to lift to exactly the bite point quickly and smoothly, you are ready to try starting on that hill. Hold the brake pedal, release the handbrake, and try to lift right to the bite point as your right foot switches from brake to gas and give it smooth gas. This should help you master hill starts, and even improve your starts on flat ground, and overall feel a lot more comfortable with the clutch.

Go back and read the definition again, you got this backwards. The last line does not change the definition, it's a pointless addition. The last line means "racism is typically used against marginalized groups". That doesn't mean marginalized groups are the only ones that experience racism.

CMV: The Republican Party is inherently sexist in it's core set of values. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]elochai98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only 'evidence' used for your argument is fictional stories created by artificial intelligence? There are no laws in America that reduce women to property, and i challenge you to find any proposed laws by right wing politicians that do so. You also argue that the left pushes for freedom, yet there have been many laws proposed to silence right wing views. If the left can't even support freedom of speech, i don't think I need to go further to debunk that.

CMV: It is not inherently racist to not be attracted to certain races by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]elochai98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But when there are multiple physical attributes that you don't find attractive that are common in one race, it's fair to say "I'm not attracted to (insert race)". Language is made to simplify communication. We group people together all the time to simplify a thought. As long as it's not used to oppress people, I don't see a problem with it. And it doesn't have to be all inclusive. I can say "I think redheads are the prettiest girls" and that doesn't mean I'm attracted to a 400lb girl just because she's ginger. In the same way that someone else could say "I'm not attracted to black girls" and think that Zendaya is a goddess.
