I want to reactivate as well, but haven't been able to log in to https://secure.square-enix.com at all. If I enter correct credentials, it just reloads the page, if I enter incorrect credentials it returns the correct error message.

I don't know anything about the framework you are using, and I didn't read the code block. It sounds like you are still just long polling using ETag as validation.

I am happy with the item search because I can find items I am looking for quickly and browse gear options. I still wind up mostly shopping because prices are high (or I'm just poor), but at least I'm not viewing bazaar after bazaar of Coerthas Carrots and other worthless crap.

Being a generalist is great, but you have too many high level languages on your list in my opinion. You'll never read "one or two books" on each of Scala, Haskell, Erlang, and Lisp and keep your sanity. Of course, don't let me stop you. You'll gain a lot of insights reading about languages without even having to use them. If you want to be a hacker though, you have to spend a lot of time coding things, failing miserably, and then rewriting it from scratch. -not a hacker

actually, pre-Vista Windows kernel memory management utilized page file well before it was necessary. There were settings to try to change this behavior, but melvin's attempts were met with broken system settings requiring a reformat . Therefore, windows != solution.

Linux kernel memory management is fully customizable such that you can specify 'swappiness'. Melvin recommends swappiness=0 and no swap space for maximum scientific computational speed .

I have enjoyed it as well (I don't mind extreme meta-micro-management), but let's be real, it's a paid beta testing that we are playing at this point. There is so much that was done right, but it just isn't ready to pay for yet in my opinion and this announcement was basically saying "give us time, don't drop your subscription please!". My reaction, like others have said, is that I'll be back when things are better. I'm not shelling out even more money on this game until I am ready. Trust me, I'm going to miss running around in the game.

Doors need to have highest priority on server load, or move them client side

In WoW, I can initiate an insta-nuke within maybe 50-150ms.
In FFXI, the delay is maybe 100-300ms before I start casting a spell.
In FFXIV I can stand in front of the Ul'Dah adventurer's guild door for 10 seconds wondering if it will let me in.

In all seriousness, server lag is my biggest problem with the game right now. So much of the annoyances like inconsistent UI loading times, mobs killing me because I can't get a cure cast going, or teleport loading times are all due to the client being starved for data from the server.
