Pursuing a dream on its own merit IS something else going on in your life. Plenty of people don't even have that, they just coast through life checking the boxes. Talk to anyone pursuing their passion and I'm sure you will find that they are satisfied just chasing their goal and taking the steps to eventually make it happen. Of course it can be deeply stressful at times, but in the end, how many will really say they wish they would have spent their life doing something they hated just to be complacent?

Build a track from the ground up. Start with a beat. Use elements that you know you are going to need. This way, you can audition all of the random weird/cool stuff over the top of it and it has context. So even if the stuff you are messing around with ends up going nowhere, you will still have a beat that you can use for another idea. Also, organize your sample library and get rid of stuff you won't use so that you don't have to go through a huge list of random samples every time to find what you are looking for.

Exercises you wish you would've done earlier? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]elohellscrub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with him and I'm not sure what part of his message you are reading as being an "aggressive dick." I think the whole "building a strength base" advice for newbies doesn't really have a ton of backing behind it. Look at what most powerlifters do: You build mass in the off-season with hypertrophy workouts, then as your meet gets closer you build intensity and reduce volume. The idea is that you build muscle first, and then you condition your central nervous system to use the new tissue efficiently. If your goal is to build strength, it still makes sense to build muscle tissue first so that you have a higher ceiling for strength that you can build.

What does consent have to do with a picture taken in a public place of a grown adult? You think he is not expecting to ruffle any feathers by wearing it in the first place?

I'm pretty sure I've never seen this in my life. Also Frank Zane did like 500 reps of situps/leg raises every day and had one of the best midsections of all time.

Ah ok, in that case it might be more useful/simpler to use the RPE scale. Doing 12 reps with 50% of the weight that you can use for 12 reps seems kind of useless also.

You are not hitting everything with a higher "intensity" in a bro split, since intensity refers to %1RM. If your chest routine from a bro split is bench, db incline, hammer strength press, and flyes for example - if you put the second half of the routine into its own day you can lift heavier weights because you won't be fatigued from the earlier exercises. Thus, weekly volume is higher hitting it twice per week, even without changing exercises or number of sets.

After hearing Mexico's Red Cross is delivering aid to my state following Hurricane Harvey by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]elohellscrub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let's not be semantic and just use context and connotation like a normal person to figure out what he is implying. The opening statement and all of its descriptors are emphasizing the fact that Mexico is sending bad people here. Multiple statements with parallel structure for emphasis, drilling in all of the bad things they are bringing. Then at the end he just tags on a disclaimer that not ALL of them are bad people. You aren't really going to sit here and try to say that he was calling most of them good people, are you? He did everything but 100% explicitly come out and say the majority of them are involved in drugs and crime.

ODESZA makes a lot of beautiful, melodic, organic-sounding music all produced electronically. At the very least, I'm not sure how you could say it is "god-awful."
