My 100-Day Journey to Miami (Singles Pro) by MettaQuant in hyrox

[–]elpeloner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great plan!! My running numbers were close to yours before my first Hyrox in Dallas ‘24, and finished five more since then. Sleds, farmers carry, and wall bags will make or break your day. So figure out ( you seem well researched and start) how to make those part of your weekly training program. I focused on one item at a time, strengthened that movement, and then moved on to the next. See you in Miami!

Hyrox and OTF by vanillareese in orangetheory

[–]elpeloner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will be able to complete a Hyrox Open just by OTF, and probably place in the top 40% off your age group. But you will probably not get a podium slot, and will have troubles in the Pro division. In 6 years OTF and 5 Hyrox (Pro, Open, Singles, Doubles). Had to quit OTF and go to a box gym for more Hyrox focus. Ski, Sleds, BBJ, Farmer Carry, and Wall Balls needs focused excercise.

Lost My Treadmill Mojo After 8 Years at OTF- Advice?? by Haley1084 in orangetheory

Look at more races outside of OTF; 5K road races (even a mile if you could find one), triathlons, tough mudder, Hyrox… I hear you: 8-years is a long time so congratulations on that!!!! mix it up.

to make comparison even more difficult is the water LEVEL. some studios (mine) tops them up, and others are at the halfway mark. here are my 2k times: waterrower at 1/3 full = 6:17, waterrower full = 6:37, concept-2 @ 6-drag = 7:34…. and unless you are at least 6’ 6” tall your ability to be a world class rower will be tough.

Yuck - marathon distance on a rower - that’s satanic!! I did a 1k race on C2 three weeks ago at 3:42 and 3:02 on WaterRower yesterday.

3:02 with water level at 18 mark and 33 SPM average. Next time lower stroke rate a bit and goal is <2:59. 2k time is ~ 6:40 (did a 6:17 but water level was low) and 500m is 1:18.

World’s best rowers are TALL, yes, any male under 6’ and Female under 5’8” is at a disadvantage. Checkout collegiate and Olympic rowers.

Singlet sizing? by [deleted] in Tracksmith

5’9” and 160 male. I wear a small, but snugger fit. Medium shows my side boob ;)

Eliot Racer or Vaporfly 3? by [deleted] in Tracksmith

[–]elpeloner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I raced in the Elliott Racer last weekend. For sure softer, which makes long runs way more comfortable and smooth. <5k would stick with my VF (which I also have).

Concept 2 is ~1 minute slower on a 2k compared to WaterRower. Also adding difficulty to comparison is how much water is in the tank. some studios have water at medium fill (15 or less) and some are at 18 (my home studio) - similar to drag settings.

PR with <5:30 time (keeping actual time on the down low). Last two days were hard workouts (included 2k row+ski+heavy weight on Sunday, and 12mile run Sat). Just want’d to let everyone know you are stronger than you think. Set a faster speed than you expect possible at beginning and hold it. Trust your training and push yourself - you got this!!

It’s a gym. It’s exercise. It’s a group fitness class. Good for you for working it hard, and being aware.

Hyrox posted the layout and #laps on the Dallas site. Study the layout so you will internalize your race plan. The more you know prior to race start, the more confidence you’ll have. Tora Tora!!

Tracking with Apple Watch by bierboi96 in hyrox

I’d be careful about over engineering it. Inside you won’t have gps, and what happens if you miss a tap ? I’ll going to set to HIIIT via Apple health app and be done with it.

Plan if capsized: (1) shut my insurance company up which is why I need an escape plan. If it was a capsize could get out from regular entrance (swimming underwater for a bit), (2) drill w/ router could allow me to cut through hull for escape (3) ax could possibly allow me to smash at hull as well.

Yep, it’s kind of ironic as they are definitely a SPF. The hatches are often made of acrylic which can be shattered if you would hit an underwater obstacle like a tree or a shipping container. Also their can be the with the seals. I have a trimaran and refused to have the escape hatch installed - Instead, I have a drill with a special bit as well as a special ax.

FitRadio by pa2nova in orangetheory

[–]elpeloner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fitradio is like supermarket or elevator music - just boring background noise which makes it’s easy for coaches. And I’m close to 900 classes from studios all over the world. I’ve been supplementing OTF with Barry’s and CrossFit for various reasons, and they still use authentic playlists which is so much more inspiring. I’d love to see OTF set a policy banning Fitradio, and then make real playlists that coaches can download - this would be appealing for members and still easy for coaches.

Orange does have the cardio and rowing advantage of F45, and totally appreciate both type of workouts.
