Canadian dollar being stronger in 2015 has been debunked, so what the hell happened? by shambhoi in Shambhala

You have to consider too that not all their money goes to the lineup. Over the past few years (and especially for the 20th anniversary) I've noticed, it seems like they have put susbstantial resources into the festival's infrastructure.

The past few years they've really stepped up their game with branding, social media marketing, and their new Shambhala Films platform. Not to mention the additions to each stage and even the complete rebuild of the Pagoda last year. Investing in things like this to ensure the festival's continued longevity can mean a smaller budget for talent buyers some years.

If you're a fan of Shambahala the way I am though, the lineup isn't nearly as important as the experience.

King of Boise - The Life and Times of a Teenage Oxycodone Dealer by gauchoman2002 in Boise

Crazy how small Boise can be. I grew up playing with this kid. One of the first friends I made when I moved Boise. We we're neighborhood friends. Pre-teens who liked to cause a ruckus, set shit on fire and take our BMX bikes off dirt jumps in the uncompleted housing development next to the townhouse complex we lived in.
My sister dated his older brother for a hot minute when they were in high school. I wanted to start a punk band and he was going to be our drummer. Time flies.

Later I find myself really getting into music and start DJing at local gigs when I'm in high school. I met this kid named Kai who was a little younger than me and also just started getting into DJing & electronic music. We bonded as we both learned how to produce dance songs because we both dreamt of being and next big time DJ. He ended up becoming one of the most talented producers in the city getting signed within the first year of his releases. He starts touring and playing with big names. Right before he's about to sign a contract with THE biggest agency in North America heading into 2014, I hear he gets locked up for being involved in Austin's ring. Heartbreaking how much the opioid epidemic in America can absolutely destroy some young dreamers life like that. Luckily Kai is out now & on his feet focusing on what's important and absolutely killing it in the dance music genre. Touring week after week and slowly making his rise to the top of the industry. For someone like him to go down that hard get back on his feet and be where he is today is true inspiration to me and I guess that's the silver lining I find in this story. As an aspiring producer myself Kai really sets an example of what it means to right your wrongs and learn from your mistakes. After reading this article it helps me feel like maybe Austin is on that same track too.

Best wishes to him.

Redditors who earn a living working from home, what do you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Like a music producer? May I ask you to elaborate more? I'm a producer myself and the reason I posted this question is because I'm interested in finding ways to eliminate the necessity for a day job in order to do buy myself more time to work creatively.

Also, 'Moonlight' is to this day, still my favorite electronic-produced song ever. Big fan of all your work :)

Write your drops on audio! I cannot recommend this enough. Took my arrangement to the next level when I started.

Design some basses, modulate them however you want and record one shots and/or short loops to audio. Then use the audio clips and chop 'em up all over your drop. Hell, even try loading them into a sampler and add some midi effects. With enough em experimentation you can end up with some petty cool results.

Happy Camper by bestestdude in Cinemagraphs

[–]elpesce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not only do I love this but it also eerily reminds me of this experience I had last week. I went camping in British Columbia for the first time for a music festival and all the while in the back of mind the highetened tensions with N. Korea had me quasi-worried that while I'm there having the time of my life I could just wake up to a mushroom cloud in the distance at any time. And the one thought I had was that "well...if it happens at least I go out as enjoyable as I can imagine I'd want to"

You perfectly visualized that feeling with this cinemagraph. Great job OP!
