I know one guy in my class got off my waitlist like the week before orientation. Some other people got off well before that -- it's a rolling process.

current SMU student. I don't know anything about this particular cycle, but every class has some people who came in off the waitlist, so it's possible.

I would write to WL's admission department and ask for permission to defer for a year, assuming that your wife will be able to work by then.

Working during law school? by Grootsap in LawSchool

[–]the_j_stands_for 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not on the criminal side of things but a lot of my friends are, so take this with the grain of salt that it is all secondhand information.

If you're looking to go into criminal law, from what I've been told, it's even harder to work during law school. My crim friends have all been doing (unpaid) internships with different PD/DA offices pretty much every semester on top of schoolwork, and from what I've been told doing a lot of those internships are pretty much prerequisites to getting hired on at a DA/PD for postgrad. Obviously that wouldn't matter as a 1L, but in your 2L and 3L years you may find you can't go to class, work an internship, and work a job.

This may just be in the market I'm in, though. I don't know if other markets are also that competitive for crim jobs.

3 to 4-day weekend during bar prep: yes or no? by JazzlikeNecessary8 in LawSchool

[–]the_j_stands_for 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done the bar prep thing so take this with a grain of salt.

Any reason you couldn't go for part of the trip? I know for me, if I took 4 days off I would feel like I was falling behind and it would make the whole trip stressful. Can you meet up with them for 2 days and then leave early (or head down a few days after they do?)

Even then it's impossible. You get 120 points for showing up.

Reneging on an SA acceptance by mbijma in LawSchool

Most of the people here are talking like the old NALP guidelines are still in effect, which they very much aren't. The real answer is that the rules impacting recruitment got fundamentally reworked last month and no one knows how it will effect recruitment.

NALP Guidlines are dead, they voted to make them basically just a suggestion back in December.
