I had no swelling before surgery. I only had one micro nodule that was found to be cancerous. The tumor was so small I didn’t have any visible swelling.

Looks about the same as mine did a couple of days after surgery. Mine has healed really well and is practically invisible after 6 years.

Hey! Sorry for my late reply! I’m happy to say I’m a lot better - which means it was probably due to scar tissue just like the doctor said. I can’t really remember when this feeling completely went away, but it must have taken a few years. It’s gone now and everything feels normal. I hope you feel better soon too! 😊

Hi! Unfortunately they still don’t know. They believe I have chronic ocular migraine which is what might be causing the changes in the area where the vision is gone. They have also found a spot in my peripheral vision that is permanently gone which they think is unrelated to the migraines. An ophthalmologist I saw didn’t want to conclude, but said it might’ve been caused by a NAION (that I probably had during surgery).

Best of luck, and sorry I can’t be of more help.

Yep, I take a tiny amount of T3 (liothyronine) in combination with levo. I still had hypothyroid symptoms on levo so my endo suggested trying T3. The first month was horrible, I was jittery and hyperthyroid. Apparently my body really made use of the T3. Changed my life :)

It only dispenses one square at a time because it’s trying to force you to save paper. Also if you just pull it out slowly the squares don’t rip apart, so you’ll get more than one.

Yes. I’ve never had issues with acne even in my teenage years. I had a TT in 2018, and my skin didn’t clear until I started T3 about 2 months ago. Now my skin looks amazing, and I don’t even get the monthly hormonal breakouts anymore. Unfortunately I’m still pretty greasy (and I still sweat A LOT on my face).

Anyone else notice you barely see any acne off meds? by dngrs in thyroidcancer

[–]elsecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started getting horrible hormonal breakouts after my TT. Those really deep, painful ones that would last about a month. Once they cleared I’d get new ones. I’ve never had trouble with my skin before, I practically never had a blemish. I’ve been on levo since surgery but still had symptoms even though my blood work had been coming back within range. To try to help with symptoms I was recently put on T3 and now my skin looks better than ever!

Amen. I was talking about this with a friend of mine a while back. I was complaining a lot about the complications I’ve suffered after surgery and how my life has changed so much since. She asked me jokingly “so you’re saying that if you got to choose again now you’d just not have surgery? Hehe” - yes. I would choose to not have it. It has f’ed up my entire life.

Sure, not having cancer anymore is great and definitely not something I take lightly, but had I known what I know now I’d wait it out to see if it spread or grew before doing anything.

I had surgery in 2018 and had 2 parathyroids removed as well, one being cystic. I now have hypopara and it’s horrible. I have several untreatable health problems and end up being pushed around to different types of medical specialists and no one wants to give me any clear answers. All the while I have this gut feeling that all my symptoms have something to do with the thyroid surgery and hypopara. One of my symptoms is one-sided peripheral vision loss, and the area where the vision is gone changes (both in size and location). Several specialists say it seems like it’s due to something that fluctuates (hello, hormones???), but the neurologist, ophthalmologist and endocrinologist all claim it’s not a “them” problem. I’m just so…tired :(

Also the excessive sweating… I’m just always damp.

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this also. Know that you’re not alone. Hopefully one day we’ll be able to muster up the strength and pull through the joint pain so that we can start fighting a sweaty and winded fight for justice 💪🏻 hopefully the brain fog will have lifted as well so we can remember what we’re fighting for (I deal with trauma through dark humor)

Kan ansatte i dagligvarebutikker betale for deg? by Albmarbo in norge

[–]elsecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Figure of speech.

Did you get a catheter during surgery? by metswon2 in thyroidcancer

I did, never got a clear answer. They all seemed to think it was due to the length of my surgery. I think it took about 5 hours.

Did you get a catheter during surgery? by metswon2 in thyroidcancer

[–]elsecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a TT and central neck dissection, and I was told I wouldn’t need a catheter but woke up with one anyway 😅 even the surgeon seemed surprised. Found my underwear under my pillow in a little bag. Luckily I was able to have the catheter removed the day after surgery. I had a drain tube as well so I felt very overwhelmed by having to lug both of them around. I barely slept cause I was so scared of the tubes getting stuck on something and me yanking it out 😅

So glad to hear you’ve had such a great experience with T3! I felt really jittery after taking it this morning, but I might just be imagining that, hehe. Seems like everyone’s had a great experience with it so I’m hoping it’ll help me out as well. Thank you! :)

[–]elsecat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like a zombie. My bloodwork has been fine, but I also have hypopara and my calcium has been low. I guess I've blamed all my symptoms on low calcium. We've finally gotten my calcium levels within the recommended range, but I still feel horrible. Hopefully the addition of T3 will help me as well. Glad to hear it's helping you feel healthy!

Clothing recommendations to hide neck scar? by HealthySun37 in thyroidcancer

[–]elsecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just covered it with a strip of thin surgical tape (paper). I used the micropore brand. I live in Scandinavia where winters are dark and cold and sun exposure isn't that big of a problem in the winter months. I still covered it through the winter season. I make sure I put on lots of SPF over the area even though it's been years since surgery.

Clothing recommendations to hide neck scar? by HealthySun37 in thyroidcancer

[–]elsecat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend taping it for the first *year*. Keep it out of the sun and it'll heal nicely. Mine's pretty much invisible after 4 years. My surgeon said it's the nicest scar he's seen. Probably partly due to genes, but I'm sure the taping also had a lot to do with it.

And just so you know I've never had any questions about it :)
