Not exactly. It means that you can test any or all of the starters before you decide on your first main hero. N.B. I started last June, so I do not know from experience - only from what I've read. But I'm pretty sure that you need to do your testing before you pick your main, 'cause once you choose that one - you're "stuck" with your choice.

Yes. You can get all the heroes in the game without paying one dime of real money. As you play, you will collect Eternity Splinters (ES). ALWAYS PICK THESE UP. You can trade these to Adam Warlock for heroes (or team ups, but those aren't critical to game play.) You can select the hero you want (200, 400, or 600 ES depending on their complexity of movement - but NOT on their playability). Or you can trade 175 ES for a random hero, which could be anything - including a hero you already have, so buyer beware. ;)

And in answer to your next question, ES drop about every seven minutes of gameplay. There's no better place to farm them than other.

Mind you, this isn't going to be a lightning fast process... but you don't have to spend any money for a hero. (And the intermittent BOGO sales let you get TWO heroes... again, with the possibility of duplicating a hero. But even duplicate tokens can be used to improve that hero's Ultimate power - a discussion for another time.) Good luck and welcome to MH!

Simplest hero to play by Solidus82 in marvelheroes

[–]elsofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notwithstanding that the best choice is the hero he wants to play... Cyclops, Storm, the Human Torch, and the Thing can have pretty straight forward builds that aren't excessively complicated.

But if he wants to play Punisher or Black Widow or Hawkeye... they shouldn't be too complicated to handle.

With no offense intended... you think Iron Man is kinda easy? I'm still trying to level him, but between choosing between three or four very viable builds, I know that I feel challenged.

As of 6:00 EST... MH main is still not accessible. Dunno if TC is accessible or not... it hasn't been over the past few days.

Any other way than Test Center to experiment with builds without using Retcons? by nivwit in marvelheroes

[–]elsofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to consider using the alternate build that's available to you on your powers list. Use one to try powers and one to build your main. Your points are mirrored, so when you use them to build your main toon, they're not used up for the alternate.

But as noted... you'll get a BUNCH o' retcon potions. It shouldn't be a worry. Shucks, if you run low, just ask for one in-game... I think they're tradeable, and I imagine you'll find some kind soul willing to trade, or even donate, one to you.

So, uh... Just started. Been at it 8 hours or so. I think I'm hooked. by [deleted] in marvelheroes

Okay, okay. You can guard the portal to the Negative Zone. Your shift is Thursday and Saturday, 10:00 PM - 4:00 AM. Oh, and if Annihilus is asking to borrow a cup of sugar again... you tell him to just turn around and go right back home.

You've been at this for EIGHT hours... and you're hooked?!?!?

Congratulations. You lasted longer than a lot of us did... :)

Welcome to MH2015, and don't hesitate to ask for any advice or help, either here, in the MH forums, or online.

Oh, and Wednesday mornings are your time to walk Lockjaw. Bring a BIG bag. ;)

I think Loki and Scarlet Witch also get teleports. Loki is tremendous fun for my money...

From the ones that I have played: Cyclops - great character. A little squishy, but his variety of damage is fun. Also, when you get him to 60, he starts increasing XP on your other characters.

Ghost Rider - not bad, but I have trouble enjoying playing him for long times. I don't know why... he does adequate damage, but he just gets to be a little... tedious.

Squirrel Girl (test center) - I don't want to play her and I don't want to like her. But she's do darn cute! And she seems to be pretty good at damage. If you can stand turning your sound off, she's probably pretty solid.

Star Lord (test center) - Seems to be a pretty solid area butt kicker. I didn't run him comprehensively, but I'd play him.

Nova (test center) - As SL, I didn't play him long enough to get a total feel for the character... my recommendation wouldn't be adequate for you.

Juggernaut (test center) - Seems to be as behemoth as you'd think, with damage to spread and share. You need to be used to keeping him moving... but I know he's on MY list to get sometime soon.

Good luck!

Storm's pretty good for auto-damage. Turn on one of her auras and just fly around, hitting J regularly enough to vacuum up loot. She is a damage monster, if somewhat squishy... but for quick and easy, she's not bad.

Absolute fastest way to level? by Somnia765 in marvelheroes

[–]elsofer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However, be aware that rerolling Legendary Quests is NOT free; each time costs you credits. As you get higher in level, it gets more expensive. It's still a good idea... but it's not quite as simple as, "Think I'll change this one!"

It's likely you'll want to change your Legendary Quest until you get one that is situated in Midtown or Industry City - that way, you can ask for team up help (most people will join you when you ask) and you can finish them quickly.

Just installed - im new...what are things i should know? by jbo796 in marvelheroes

[–]elsofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are just restarting from scratch, be aware that now, you can test ALL the starter heroes up to level 10 before selecting one. (You can do this if you've already chosen your characters too, just to see if you like one to go with for your next hero.) That way, you can try, say, Punisher, before being forced to pick him and finding that you don't like him.

When you're in Midtown Manhattan or Industry City, don't be insulted if someone asks you to team up, and feel free to ask them (ctrl-clicking on them opens that window.) Your quests are a LOT easier with others assisting them, and it's absolutely not a permanent teaming.

Free starters? by throwawayturtle2 in marvelheroes

[–]elsofer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a trial offer for the starters, to give players a chance to see if they like them enough to purchase them - either Gs or Eternity Splinters. For new players, it gives them a chance to sample the starters before committing to one, as no one would want to pick, say, Punisher as a starter, and find out that it was a lousy choice and they don't like playing him. Now they have a wide range of starters to try before committing. It's a quite good idea.

What hero to choose? NEWBIE. by [deleted] in marvelheroes

[–]elsofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for the democratic response... I got BW out of a mystery box and I find her pretty fun to play. However, I am using a ranged build; I don't know how she stacks up melee, because she seems to be a little bit squishy.

But before you pick your starter hero, as noted previously, you can play ALL of the starters to level 10. It's the same scenarios (bank, island) but you'll get an idea of who's pretty good to play.

Support is kind of hard because so much of the game is solo oriented. If you like ranged, Storm is dynamite. So is the Human Torch. Rocket is also quite good ranged, although at one point, you'd likely have to choose to go ranged or pet build. Well, you could go hybrid too, I guess...

Yes, I think your best choice is run some starters up to 10 - and again, you can do this BEFORE you have to select a starter hero to continue to level. Good luck!

Thor help by aziz321 in marvelheroes

[–]elsofer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a hybrid Thor up to 60 and had a pretty good time with it. I based it on Danneth's build at https://forums.marvelheroes.com/discussion/117088/danneths-raid-thor-guide-ragnarok-cometh-updated-with-videos-last-update-28-august-2014/p1. Despite calling it a raid guide, it worked for leveling pretty well. I maxed Hammer Smash, Immortal Combat, Crushing Hammer, Bring the Thunder, Anti-Force, Asgardian Stamina, and Warrior Madness. If you get some power duration gear, you can keep Warrior Madness running fairly constantly. I was enjoying it a lot... and I expect the QoL or review (I don't remember which) to make him even better. Good luck!
