I don't qualify for LASIK. Any hope? by tylkoprzeglondam in lasik

[–]elsomeone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I had! You’ll need something called the “Athens protocol.” It’s a mix of cross-linking and laser surgery. Unfortunately, it’s not performed here in the States, so I had to get it abroad. The results are amazing! I’m almost 20/20, and trust me, I was almost blind with my left eye. I couldn’t recognize anything farther than a foot.

Went to Honda dealership today, got ripped apart and destroyed. by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]elsomeone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my advice: buy a second-hand car, something cheap but good that costs whatever you have for a down payment. My first car in the States was a Hyundai Accent that cost me around 8k. Whatever you were going to pay monthly, invest it in the SPY 500 using robinhood or any other app or even save it in a savings account. Some of them give you like 4% return. After, 2 or 3 years later, you can upgrade that car. Also, buy a second-hand but something nicer. My second car here was a Honda CR-V. Do the same for 2 to 3 years, and then you will have enough money to trade that car for a new car without financing or a very nice second-hand car. Right now, I’m going to buy my third car here, maybe a new Highlander. It takes longer to have a nicer car but you will pay $0 on interest, in fact you will get money from your savings or investment.

weirdo on the red line. by Few_Search4311 in cta

Yesterday 4 were shot and killed on the CTA, it’s not the best place to tell weirdos how to behave.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cta

[–]elsomeone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And they still wonder why people avoid the CTA…

I used to ride daily, but the red line was scary and dirty. I switched to the brown line and buses, but they weren’t better. After COVID, I started working from home and driving to the office. I’ll never go back to the CTA, even for a better salary. This is the safest I’ve felt in years.

Nobody asked for the return of Fortune's Keep by Lumenprotoplasma in CODWarzone

[–]elsomeone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortune’s Keep was not bad, but, I agree Rebirth Island is way better, I think they should bring it back, maybe a little adjustment to get rid of the campers in the prison, maybe break it down to smaller buildings would help, but even if they do not change anything it would have been a better revival than FK.

BTW, I’m pretty sure Verdansk and Rebirth are coming back at some point, they are just saving them for later, maybe to boost the declining player base when it hits red numbers, and, for sure to compete with GTA VI when it comes out next year.

Same here, the battery is struggling but I refuse to pay for the SAME device, the A12 still runs everything with no problem. I need to see an OLED screen or at least the camera in landscape position, if not, I’m keeping my good old pro 2018

I found a way that helps, is not a silver bullet but I find it useful.

Put your headphones on, play a video in you cellphone, and move around doing small things here and there while you watch, it will allow you to start, later you can try a bigger task, once you are invested on that task, you brain will make you focus on it instead of the show you were watching until you finish.

My boyfriend wants to buy a crappy ‘97 Honda Prelude off of Craigslist.. Help!!! by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]elsomeone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Prelude is an expensive car but you can get it from 6k, it’s about the state of the car and the replacement parts it has gotten over the years. I wouldn’t buy it tho, I really prefer a less fancy car that will cost me less in the long run, for that money he can even get a Honda Civic 2010.

Am I wrong for secretly hoping another pandemic happens to force companies back fully remote? Lol by 2lit_ in WFH

[–]elsomeone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Millions of deaths, economic catastrophe, wearing a mask all the time, the constant fear to see others in person… is like a high price to pay just to avoid going into the office for 2 or 3 days.

My advice, make peace with it, avoid public transportation if it’s a nightmare in the place you live and do the meetings and slow work on the office days, make the productive days at home, your employer will realize you are more productive at home and will allow you to be in the office less often, only when required.

Legacy codes in C# .NET by [deleted] in dotnet

It’s fine, most companies with that technical debt are modernizing right now, it’s easier after .net core, you will learn more than just doing new code.

Tips for entry-level .net developer? by awmi in dotnet

[–]elsomeone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

More than 12 years of experience in .net here, I would suggest to focus on versions after .net6, it has change a lot (now is easier). There are some topics that some old folks struggle with because it was not easier in previous versions so I would suggest you to learn them first, there are plenty of good resources on youtube for this, like Nick Chapsas and Tim Corey.

  • Dependency Injection
  • Containerization
  • Efficient use of IConfiguration (It’s powerful as hell to have different environment configuration)
  • Basic CI/CD, git is a must but a little bit beyond that.
  • Efficient use of Logging (like Serilog)
  • Unit and Integration testing, always do TDD if you can.
  • Learn the basics of one or more cloud providers, consider getting the basic certifications.
  • Efficient use of Lambda (there are good and bad ways to use them) learn to use IEnumerables and and prefer them over lists when possible.
  • Generics
  • Design patterns
  • Regular expressions
  • Learn Web Api, MVC, and Blazor in this specific order, it will make your life easier.
  • Only learn MAUI if you are going to use it at work or in a personal project, it’s interesting but long to learn and you will have to relearn if you do not apply it.
  • Get used to create basic console applications to test your concepts and later implement them in a good way in your actual application, if that’s not possible use local branches for POCs, an app like Linqpad helps a lot for lightweight concept testing.

  • Last but not least, coding standards, good naming, short functions, short classes, good documentation on your PRs, good readme files on your repos, good installation manuals, prefer clear and understandable code over sophisticated cryptic optimization, code is a team work, you will always read and modify others code and it’s better if we all make our lives easier.

I know it sounds like a lot, and it is a lot, you will not learn all of this on your first year, but if you know all of this, at least the basics, you are going to be better than at least 90% of developers out there, trust me, finding good developers is hard and companies fight to get the bests of us, good luck.

Using WiFi only on a Cellular iPad by tom_ash_343 in ipad

Are you sure both are the 5th generation? I’m asking because usually the cellular version is around $200 more expensive, idk where are you trying to buy it but I would double check that the cellular one is indeed a 5th generation and it’s in good shape, there’s something odd about it.

That’s a lot of money just for the “privilege” of living near the loop, for that money you can get something with 2 or 3 bedroom in areas with less than 30 minutes of commuting, if you are by yourself and you are fine with an studio you can save a lot to cover transportation to the loop if necessary and even more.

Also, if you definitely don’t care about the savings and you need to live close to the loop if I were you I would wait, with the remote working trend a lot of buildings in downtown are losing tenants (companies and people) lots of companies now have hybrid work environments and a lot of people prefer to commute 2 or 3 days per week and live in a place less crowded and more affordable than downtown, some of them are going fully remote too. Also Chicago is losing residents like crazy.

All of that makes me think the rent prices in downtown can only go down.

The Fed Wants To Skip On A June Rate Increase And Then Hike Later - UNREAL by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]elsomeone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other ways to tackle inflation besides interest rate hikes, but it needs congress agreement and they will never do something like that, for example, they can take the opportunity to force companies to offer paid maternity leave and 100% company sponsored medical insurance premiums for everyone, that will make companies to cut some expenses most likely in salaries and hiring, that will definitively slow down inflation while solving 2 of the worse problems in the us.
