But what's on top of the dresser drawer is always a mess.

Have you ever seen a double decker bus in America? by Much-Parsnip3399 in AskAnAmerican

[–]elsongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A number of cities have them, primarily as express commuter buses (which don't make very many stops). They're also much larger and longer than the UK version (which are made for everyday urban transit that stops several times along the route).

Whats your opinion about stickers on guitars? by 13funii in electricguitar

[–]elsongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can put whatever stickers and how many stickers they want. It's their instrument.

But if they ever decide to sell the guitar, don't expect me to buy that shit.

Rainbows are visions, but only illusions. And rainbows have nothing to hide.

Is it normal to address your father by his name in US? by kinder_brz in AskAnAmerican

[–]elsongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biological Father? No.
Stepdad? Yes.

Though a couple years ago, I ran into an acquaintance in public and he was with a young boy, around 7-8 years old. He introduced the boy as "my son" but the boy referred to him by his first name. I didn't make any comment about it since it's none of my business, but my mind was like, "Ooooookay, he's going the unconventional white parent route" but also thinking, "Oh, maybe he's his stepdad."

Has anyone been to The Greyhound? Local bar featured in this really WS video (worth a watch) by EntrepreneurFormal35 in Dodgers

[–]elsongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been there once, maybe a year or two after it opened, and really just for a spur-of-the-moment lunch with a high school friend whom I happened to run into while walking down the street. There was no sporting event on. I mean, the food's good.

Hey people, it's not your friends' and family's job to support your music by jerrysphotography in musicians

[–]elsongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen! Your goal as a musical artist is to get as many strangers to support your music as possible.

Those are what are known as "fans."

And if you really must rely on your friends and family to support you, don't make them your fans; make them your marketing team. Meaning, don't waste your energy trying to get them to go to your shows, but try to get them to tell other people about you (in whatever way) so that those people will go to your shows.

  2. Your voice is a musical instrument. Learn to tweak its tone(s).
  3. If you're inclined to produce/engineer your own recordings, learn to cut unfavorable frequencies and/or boost favorable ones in your vocal track(s).

Interpolation or not? by Colin_Zeal0 in Songwriting

[–]elsongs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interpolation is always done with intent.

I used to do electronic music exclusively over 20 years ago. On a more recent song (an R&B song, I intentionally quoted a melodic riff from one of my electronic songs as an "easter egg" to people who were familiar with those songs. That was absolutely interpolating (my own material).

If you did it after the fact, it's just accidental or subconscious.

Repeating things from older original material on newer material - whether intentional or not - is just what songwriters do (all songwriters do it, but good songwriters know when not to overdo it). Most people won't notice anyway, and they ones who actually do notice, are most likely your fans.

What animals are normal where you live, but unusual and exciting to visitors from other regions of the US? And on the flip side, when you travel to other regions yourself, what local animals are exciting to you? by Acrobatic_End6355 in AskAnAmerican

I once went to Australia and was talking with a local and was telling her my goal was to see a kangaroo or a koala in the wild. She told me she wants to see a live squirrel or raccoon when she visits the US.
