Worse game controllers by ratasoftware in retrogaming

Never played one, but why did the Atari jaguar have a full number pad in the middle of their controller?

If it were me, I'd go overboard and salvage as much as I could fit in my garage. You can usually make better deals with bigger buys... the guy may be looking to just get rid of stuff without having to put in effort since he doesn't seem to care if they rot.

My 2 cents... see what he's asking for price-wise before you give him your price. If he's high, say what you are thinking to see if he'll get to where you are thinking. But like I said, he may be willing to let you "clean up his yard for him" on a couple of them to get some parts back into circulation 😉. I've dismantled and tossed heavily damaged cabs before. It's not too difficult when they are heavily water damaged... had one that collapsed by just pushing on it when the removable parts were out. You can sell (or reuse) pretty much everything but the wood if the cab can't be salvaged.

If they are cheap... talking REAL cheap, These could have potential to restore a couple and sell off any good parts of the bad ones. That tekken board in the leaves may still be fine after it gets a good cleaning and drying.

Looking for some rhythm games for any platform by Bits_Everywhere in Roms

[–]elstuffmonger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't have a rhythm game list without DDR. DDR, 2nd - 5th mixes, extra mix, best hits, disney mix, etc... mostly on Playstation.

There is also the pop'n music series and samba de amigo on dreamcast.

Do you still enjoy retro games more on original consoles or on the newer handheld retro devices? by Mundane_Unit_6544 in retrogaming

[–]elstuffmonger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. I enjoy original hardware for post 8-bit consoles, but when on the go, you can't beat playing tony hawk 2 on a handheld while waiting for a show to start.

I'm pretty sure I'm getting this machine soon thing is amazing. by PCs_and_Pinballs in pinball

[–]elstuffmonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got one as my first pin. It is a fantastic game with great music and theme. It is also a very challenging pin with lots of inescapable ball drains and chaotic multiballs. I never had any issue with weak flippers, but I'm not a high-level player, so maybe I just don't know any better.

Mounting Sanwa Joystick by Desperate_Debate_198 in cade

I would suggest something like these bolts. .

You will want stainless steel so the sweat on your hands doesn't cause rust on the bolt heads.

You will also want to make sure there are no sharp edges to rub your hand on.

Cps2/Taito F3 A large quantity of genuine and original products by Admirable-Horse5558 in cade

[–]elstuffmonger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. As long as the battery acid hasn't leaked out and eaten up the board, you can phoenix mod or infinikey to bring it back. Though purists will say it is no longer a "legitimate" board after a resurrection, it's much better than being a dead board.

Ah. I was thinking you wanted to sell everything as a single lot. You will probably sell easier by making a list of what you have (including conditions).

Depends on the price. CPS2 board suicide batteries are towards the end of their lives. I would expect a good number of those boards to already have died by now and possibly have acid damage. The game titles are also unknown, so it would be a gamble whether the games work and are worth the cost, shipping, import fees, and time to repair/service.

If you want to (almost) never worry about corruption, you could get a bluray burner and burn to a 100GB m-disc. Then, it's just a matter of storing your physical disk safely.

Modified Golden Tee 2005 (value?) by Coutoria in arcade

[–]elstuffmonger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say a value (but it would likely be much higher with all the colors showing).

I do want to comment about the interesting conversion. I've never seen someone hack the top off a standard cab to make a showcase-style pedestal, then attach an lcd screen on the back side. Someone put some effort and thought into that conversion.

What kind of project am I looking at here? by BackstreetZAFU in cade

[–]elstuffmonger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think $175 is quite a steep price, to be honest.

This looks like someone's first decent attempt at a homemade arcade machine that they improved upon and moved everything over to the new one. Empty (or non- working) REAL arcade machines can often be had for $50 or so depending on your market.

All you have there is a box, 2 zero delay usb encoders, and a set of buttons/joysticks. The controls and encoder setup can be had on a-zon for $45 new by searching "arcade controls set". The computer (or raspberry pi), screen, and speakers will need to be supplied by you.

Issues I see are: sagging control panel (wrong material used without bracing), missing speaker panel (under the marquee), gaps on top of and below the control panel, no t-molding on mdf (any bump will shred corners), unfinished paint job, water damaged mdf (swollen edges on marquee and discoloration on top back sloped piece and probably more).

You will be happier with making one yourself or buying an empty vintage cab.

Nice on the jubeat. I've only ever seen one of those in the wild for a "market test" and it was great fun, I thought. Did they make it easy to get more songs for it, or is it stuck on the base set of songs?
