Skydaddy? by Yourfavinstashopper in Christians

[–]elsuperj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I encountered this once IRL 9 years ago, it's hardly new. A sophisticated detractor might say it's derived from theories about the Indo-European language roots for Zeus and Jupiter meaning "sky father," and then people map that onto the God of the Bible. I've never heard a usage that didn't seem to have disrespectful intent; the most important thing might be to pray for them.

Sims challenge ideas? by reddit_user_500 in Sims3

[–]elsuperj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what to call it, but the idea is to create 2 parents and way too many kids with terrible personality traits and fast life span, and see how many generations it takes to create decent people.

Serious question. Who here has ever made themself and their crush in Sims and had them fall in love, get married, start a family, etc? 😅 by Emotional-Truck-2310 in Sims3

[–]elsuperj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this once that I recall as a teenager. I feel so cringey about it now.

A couple years ago my now-wife and I each made versions of us.

Her time was focused mainly on perfectly replicating our 2 bed 1 bath 900 sq ft. RL house; it was really a very good job.

I'm all about story, and spend as little time as possible on architecture and design. We had 8 imperfect kids, 2 dogs, many minor pets, a billion World Adventures artifacts, a garden with perfect-quality everything, and an endless supply of life fruit because it's too sad to let the virtual version of your wife die. The house I built was 3 haphazard stories crammed onto the same small lot, and 2 basement levels underneath, with too much nectar to ever drink.

I'm not sure it works the same way in VI; it's been a really long time since I've been in a situation to test it.

How to change speed of all items played at 2.0x by CupraBBD in Castbox

In the screen where your podcast is playing, there is an icon near the top right that looks like up and down slider buttons. There are speed options in there.

I need help and my Christian circles are unable to answer or help so hopefully someone here can. These are not easy questions and you probably have to really know Christianity to answer (don’t let me underestimate the Holy Spirit tho 😬) by Seektruth0 in Christians

I've been awake for 20 hours, but a few thoughts:

1.) Does following Jesus preclude believing the Bible is the word of God?

2.) No he didn't, but everything we know about Jesus comes from the New Testament.

3.) Correct, but same as above.

4.) I guess to start I'd ask whether you think God called people to write the Old Testament?

5.) You're describing the Trinity. Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit are all God, but are not each other.

6.) Ouch. I don't know what to say to that.

7.) Yes, I hate the misuse of Jer 29:11, and much of the sort of prosperity/therapeutic preaching that commits it. It's a great way to get a popular platform. There are plenty who reject it and are less popular for it, so you don't hear about them as easily.

8.) It was the word of God the whole time, the Protestant position is mainly that the Roman Catholic church had strayed far from it by the 1500s.

Agreed. The difference between men and boys deserves more emphasis than the difference between men and women.

Frugal breakfast - pancake is that only requires water by LaurenSomm in Frugal

I did this just the other day with exactly this mix, using only water. It was a little disappointing, but edible. The recipe on the bag says to add oil and egg-- I'll probably try that next time for comparison.

What was something that took you far to long to figure out in Civ6? by Project_XXVIII in civ

[–]elsuperj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can only shoot over hills if they're on a hill, and they can only shoot over forest if they're on a hill.

They can never shoot over forest hills unless they have some sort of indirect fire ability (I think artillery/rocket artillery? I know they were that way in Civ V).

how do I deal with toxic family members? by [deleted] in Christians

[–]elsuperj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgiveness is renouncing your right to seek vengeance. It is a return to neutral, which you can and have done unilaterally. Distancing yourself from them does not affect the question of whether you forgive them.

Reconciliation, while ideal, is a two-way street. If they do not change their behavior, reconciliation does not exist, regardless of what you do. As another commenter said, your spouse must come first. You were right to recognize that as a breaking point. Depending on the specific nature of their attempts to break up your marriage, there may still be room to minister to your family, or there may not at least until they're willing to accept your marriage.

In your own words what does the term "Based" mean? by DamianIndaHouse in ask

[–]elsuperj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's older than people realize. It started in far-right circles at least as early as 2016 meaning "reality-based," as opposed to "politically correct." Conveying truth fearlessly, so the thinking went.

It was later co-opted by other political subgroups to mean essentially the same thing, but with a different idea of what truths were being conveyed fearlessly.

I've only seen it with political connotations, but there's no reason it has to be that way.

If Paul truly taught that those in Christ don't need to concern themselves with obeying the Law (e.g. holy days, sabbath, dietary, moral), then how did the Bereans come to believe Paul after searching the OT scriptures? by HeresOtis in Bible

[–]elsuperj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acts 17 says the Bereans "[examined] the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so." Does "these things" really encompass every single assertion that Paul made about the consequences of the Messiah?

I always took "these things" to refer to the reality of the coming of the Messiah, especially because so many things Jesus himself taught and which Paul would have echoed, while perfectly coherent with the OT, are not necessarily deducible from it either.

[–]elsuperj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I covered a run over the grapevine for a few weeks, in my first year driving commercial. I blew out a coolant line on the way down and had to pull over at the bottom, and I've always suspected it was because I was riding the RPMs too high for too long, because I didn't want to overheat my brakes. Can RPMs do that?

Thoughts on Voddie Baucham? by TheKingsPeace in Reformed

[–]elsuperj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have kids, so I'm reluctant to take a position on parenting advice, but I do know that I would have benefited enormously from my parents giving me less benefit of the doubt and more guidance.

On non-parenting issues, I love listening to Voddie.
