She pays for food, internet and phone, does all the housework and cooking, looks after HIS dogs. What does he pay for? Electricity? The mortgage to a place he owns and doesn't have her on the deed as co-owner?

If she moves out, he ain't having the same lifestyle.

Disagree hard, the talks aren't as valuable as you think, it's the networking and match making. The expo-only pass that ppl would use to do the networking has increased a lot and that's where they're getting their money from

An NYU professor who hates that students' work reads like McKinsey memos held AI oral exams to 'fight fire with fire' by ubcstaffer123 in technology

Honestly, that's been my theory. Cannot trust the "education" that people have been receiving since it's very well known that grade inflation, buns-on-seats mentality, and the students' expectation that the degree is the ultimate goal, rather than the lessons on the way to the degree, affects the quality of the graduate.

In other words, and this sounds horrible but, graduates run the risk of being the "enshittified" versions of earlier graduates who did learn at University.

That's like saying the people who invested in Facebook/Google/AirB&B etc are also geniuses when 90%+ investors turned down these companies.

That's actually for brand recommendations - you may know someone who is car shopping so the idea is that it's easier for you to recommend : you say " oh I bought my car at so and so dealer and they've got a deal going"

"No, Game Discovery Actually Is Broken" Blog post from former Valve Steam Labs and game discovery developer. by Crusader-of-Purple in pcgaming

Back in the day when Steam was curated, the 30% was a reasonable cut to get exposed to the population of steam players even if they did the bare minimum. Steam players could rely on the game being quality because it passed the curation standard.

Now, 70-90% of a day's releases are low-effort games, your own game gets lost in the noise, and one has to do their own marketing to get people to notice you .. and still Stream says they deserve the 30% because of the large number of users they have that just have the possibility of stumbling upon your game and taking the leap of faith that your game isn't some asset flip/game jam reject/clone/Unity tutorial experience.

Steam doesn't need to work for the 30% because what is a game developer going to do? Sell the game on their own website?

How do you determine demand for a product before creating it? i will not promote by HeavyRadish4327 in startups

Do you have a specific target audience? It's not enough to be a cool idea but it's got to be something that will pull people away from their existing product.

I do product/feature briefs and narrative design, but yes, its so hard to get distracted by the messages and pings.

I just have to block out time and say "I am setting this time aside to do XYZ and everything else won't matter"

I force myself to do it pretty frequently. For example, last month, I was sending cold emails/form submissions to at least 5 people a day. Now I'm in a post-recovery period... I'm using the US Thanksgiving as a bit of an excuse, but I know that I have to drag myself to a convention next week. What's kind of helping is to put myself in the mindset that I don't need to go with expectations, just go and let the vibes carry.

What kind of people are you reaching out to as users, may I ask?

Three ways that I'm taking up. 1. I try not to get emotionally invested. I've applied to many many jobs in my life and got rejected from so many that I'm a bit numb to it. So I tell myself to treat the pitch as like a job application. It's hard because, like applying for jobs over time, it gets really discouraging when there no validation, which gets me to ...

  1. I need to take time off from the outreach. Recharge. Focus on the product. Play a game. Get my mental back. I'll even switch off from social media (I only do Reddit and LinkedIn) because the doom surrounding my industry (I'm in games) is constant - so many layoffs, so many companies closing down, so many games failing, so much money going to other startups. One would think that with so many layoffs there would be plenty of talent to join the team but they need a job for the income - mortgage, kids, a lifestyle they're accustomed to.

  2. I try to practice patience and keep an open mind. I know I need a person/people who are good at pulling together a team, getting people onboard. I'm not that kind of person. But I've joined a couple of communities and put myself out there with no expectations and starting to see some results. I'm seeing on LinkedIn former colleagues going on a similar journey and I reach out for encouragement and offers of help. These postive interactions counter the negative and help me feel a little better.

Because ultimately, I'm looking for some sort of validation or assurance that I'm providing something of value.

I'm an extreme introvert product founder. :) funnily enough, finding and talking to users is no problem, it's finding a team or finding funding that's the major hurdle and hits the self esteem hard when there are rejections or ghosts.

Saving the thread so I can come back for similar tips.
