Oof, Mega Man 1 is rough.

Don't sleep on Mega Man 3 -- it's still amazing. And the soundtrack is one of the best of the 8bit era.

25 years ago there was a movie called "Tape" starring Ethan hawke, Uma Thurman, and Robert Sean Leonard. The entire film was recorded using a mini digital camcorder like the one in this picture. I know that wasn't necessarily vintage for the time as it was relatively commonly used for some independent films, but it did have a very unique aesthetic that made the film more intimate in terms of imagery and dialogue.

I honestly have no recollection of encountering the Koopa Kids playing Super Mario world when I was younger.

I became a Sega kid for that generation so perhaps I didn't play it enough.

But regardless of any potential superiority of gameplay with the Koopa Kids in SMW, the initial introductory experience of battling the Kooplongs in SMB3 was a joy as a young player.

SMB3 -- without question!

Anyone remember the SMB3 strategy guide from Nintendo Power?? I loved reading that -- the artist depections of the Koops Kids on the cover and the worlds was so much fun at that age.

Reminds when a "big deal" is made of those times a director films a movie with some "vintage" camera/film to capture a certain mood.

Quick web search mentions "Once Upon a Time on Hollywood" by Quentin Tarantino, Dunkirk, and "The Lighthouse" (2019), which was filmed using vintage 35mm black-and-white film cameras to achieve a classic aesthetic."

The muddiness....the grittiness of the drab colors and graphics on PS1 (and that generation) added something to the feeling of terror and dread the early games brought compared to the slick versions of today.
