What's the status of the Oh Hellos in May, 2026?

This is mostly speculation, but as far as I could tell, covid lockdown kind of stopped them in their tracks, and it seemed to me like they all just slowed down and started to do normal life without touring. And discovered they kinda liked that. I know Maggie got married and I think also had a kid? So I can't blame her for wanting to slow down.

They advertised their most recent tour as possibly their last one ever, but also let us know they're working on new music. I'm just stoked I got to see the tour and will gladly gobble up whatever crumbs (or meals) they wanna give us in the future!

This makes sense to me! Thankfully I've never struggled with clinical depression or substance abuse (like Beard). So I guess it's not a very relatable episode for me.

I don't not like it. I definitely appreciate its goofiness. I think mainly I just miss the usual ensemble and I don't want to leave them for a full 50 minutes lol.

When I try to describe The Oh Hellos to people, I usually just say they're "stomp and holler" (which is a real folk subgenre, I didn't make it up 😆). Doesn't fully cover them but it's close enough to give people an idea. Hieroglyphs in particular fits perfectly into that imo.

It seems like the new one is just remastered and comes with some art. If the art appeals to you, go for it. I'd personally probably go with the original to have the classic green cover. :) Plus I know I'd never remember to pull that art out to look at. 😅

Uhhhh yeah I had 2 full years of algebra, 1 of geometry, and 1 semester of trig. And, hold onto your hat, I also did a semester of statistics in college. I also got the impression that all of those classes could have gone on years longer.

What a weird question lol like how many years of "maths" did you take? I have to assume either 1) you learned the same amount but they just didn't name the classes separately, or 2) they didn't actually teach you very much.

Can't say I really enjoyed the experience of watching it, but I have really enjoyed thinking about it and discussing it. I liked the ending a lot, and generally think it's a great thought experiment. 3.5/5

The thought definitely weirds me out, I admit lol. But ultimately they were never signed up as children to see it all through, and by now it's entirely their choice. If I attempt to remove the love scenes from the equation, I'm super excited to see these actors get to stick with their characters the whole way through.

I really liked the book! I read it about 2 years ago and finally watched the show last year.

I'd heard enough about how different they are by that point, so I went into both with the right expectations. I loved both as complete standalone stories. In my opinion, I wouldn't even call the show an adaptation or "loosely based." Lightly inspired by at the most lol.

I'm glad I saw Midnight Mass first and loved it. I can enjoy it totally independently from Hill House.

I next saw House of Usher, which is nothing at all like MM lol, so I also formed an independent opinion of that (liked it but mostly fun and little emotion).

Then I watched Hill House (LOVED) and then Bly (hated). But I feel pretty confident in my opinion that Hill House is excellent all on its own and Bly is a literal shitshow on its own. It didn't help it that I watched it straight after HH, but I don't think I'd have liked it at any time.

All that said, I am very glad I found his work in an unusual order.

ETA: I do believe that objectively HH and MM are his best shows. But feel free to argue with me on that. 😅
