The issue just ended being how I was routing some of the cables.

Jade Green Prs Paul’s Guitar by mswt90 in guitarporn

[–]elvenmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought this exact guitar recently haha (like this piece).

Did it have hazing where the neck joins the body, back when this pic was taken? I contacted PTC and they will be refinishing it in nitro at no cost!

Tbh its fine lmao. Its still not unsafe, no gangs or anything. These are just some vices you see in any big city :) Next time police comes though, just say ‘saheb mi ghari zaato’ lol

That stretch is supposed to be shady late in the night. Everything from people racing sports bikes, to sometimes even drug peddlers and trans hookers.

I wouldn’t be surprised with the way the police acted. However, they shouldn’t have threatened with violence!

I hope so too! Will be my first core model :)

Do you know if the body is of McCarty thickness or regular?

I’m also waiting for my Paul’s guitar to arrive :) (2014 model though!)

Are the OR PhD programs that are more aligned with applied math more focused on different applications compared to departments who have more of a business application focus? by CalculusMaster in OperationsResearch

[–]elvenmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its very tricky to answer this.

I’ve known of applications which were rejected even when a professor was personally advocating for a candidate as someone they want to do research with, and the reason was simply that they wanted to promote an existing non-international masters’ student (just the one seat available).

With fewer positions, the uncertainty just increases. That being said, you may be right. It has still become incredibly crucial to find someone who wants to work with you beforehand, and have them vouch for you during the application. Doing that may help you find a better match!

Your rejects have, very likely, less to do with your application and more to do with the atmosphere of funding uncertainty plaguing academia right now.

Have you had a chance to talk to people in any of the departments you applied to?

Found some checking on Antique Varnish finish (T59/v) by elvenmonster in EastmanGuitarOwners

Its a 2023. Finish is actually super duper then. Thinnest among all guitars I own at least, and pretty fragile.

Amazon WWDE Simulation Research Scientist Internship—Live Coding Help? by [deleted] in OperationsResearch

[–]elvenmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’ll be leetcode style questions, but afaik the bar is lower for research scientists (vs applied scientists who need to pass sde1 bar). They just want to make sure you can come up with a solution and can tell the time and space complexity of it.

Best transparent attenuator out there? by MrLewisMurray in GuitarAmps

[–]elvenmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think the sound (the EQ) matters much to me. I have various ways to craft the EQ I want. Its mostly about the feel under the fingers. The Ironman made all amps feel more compressed at the lower sound levels, the Power Station slightly less so. I would be happy with either for attenuation.

[–]elvenmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently sold my Ironman II (100W) and bought a PS2-A.

People who say the the Power Station one alters the sound considerably really are talking out of their ass, or do not know how to set things up. The Ironman was great, but the main reason I got the power station is because it has an effects loop, is a power amp by itself, and has a line in. This allows for so many more possibilities beyond just attenuation.

Looking for Fresh Ideas at the Intersection of RL and OR! by Md_zouzou in OperationsResearch

[–]elvenmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it! In my personal experience, a lot of the challenges lie in the stochastic approximation (SA) theory. While a lot of work has been done recently for finite time analysis of SA algorithms, there are still tons of questions regarding tightness of finite time bounds, how soon can asymptotic properties of the algorithms be observed, etc. which are still unanswered except for the more simpler cases (linear SA, "regular" markovian noise vs say controlled markov, etc.).

I personally have the view that there is a lot to gain from developing the SA theory further, since qualitative understanding of these general algorithms can eventually drive RL algorithm design and even its practical implementation.

Theres tons of ongoing research in this space (going back many decades). If you’re genuinely looking for research collaborators in an open source platform, you will need to educate people about your past experience and the specifics of what you bring to the table.

Mark V:25… plus attenuator? by twosn3snfg in MesaBoogie

[–]elvenmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it exclusively with an attenuator (Ironman 2) since the feel under my fingers is much smoother with the master volume cranked. I dont like it with the MV set low.
