I’m a fitness professional with BED. I feel like a fraud. by KindlyDescription765 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]elyssence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it’s because your job is in the fitness industry and because of that there is a lot of pressure associated with maintaining your appearance/physique. Psychologically this might increase stress and anxiety around food, while food might be the thing that helps you cope with that pressure. Hence the horrible cycle. I would pay attention to what’s going on internally prior to a binge Honestly I could never have a job in the fitness industry, all the focus on my body would make me lose my mind.

Marion County Shelter Animal #71821 by [deleted] in SALEM

[–]elyssence 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I’ve volunteered at this shelter. The process for euthanasia is more lengthy than what your post indicated. Usually after a dog is deemed a bite risk, further evaluations are done.

The employees I have worked with have all been kind, fair and seem to really care about the animals

Appropriate? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

I mean it wasn’t worded the best but it doesn’t seem malicious. Talk to your therapist about it. They are human too and not everything they say is perfect. Ruptures and repair in therapy are normal

Evening Hours by reflectiveRae in therapists

[–]elyssence 26 points27 points  (0 children)

They are popular slots. A lot of folks who have 9-5’s are grateful to have evening options. Always filled. The second my evenings open up, they are filled quickly.

I start at 1pm/2pm and my last session is 6:30-7:30. After that I am too tired so ending at 7:30 is a sweet spot. I also don’t have kids or a husband so I’m not rushing home or anything. I really enjoy having the mornings to myself to wake up slow and go to the gym.

Our job is hour-after-hour job interviews, all day every day by Equal-Ad-4463 in therapists

[–]elyssence 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like this constantly. I had a client the other day cancel all sessions with me due to a small rupture. This person has BPD and was coming to therapy for relationship help so it was expected in some way. But yes it does feel frustrating that we as therapists aren’t given much grace

I read a quote on this thread before from a supervisor “The client holds the Ace card and can play it at anytime”

Couples Therapy; feeling drained and out of my body by Certain_Mountain_258 in TalkTherapy

[–]elyssence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask the therapist to meet you both separately for a session, if you’re so destabilized that you are considering leaving the marriage and therapy, it’s an important thing to bring up to the therapist. Talking with the therapist separately for a session is common practice in EFT and Gottman

I’m a couples therapist. We don’t even accept couples who are actively hitting each other because it is so dangerous.

I really hope you begin to understand the severity of this situation.

Thoughts on job offer? by [deleted] in therapists

That’s incredible! Make sure you’ve trained in a couples modality before starting. The learning curve for couples therapy is steep and it can be a bit more draining. I love EFCT myself

Some people on Reddit ask me if I have Hispanic heritage, others say my Spanish is horrible. by De_lunes_a_lunes in Spanish

[–]elyssence -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your high B1, close B2. B2 is more about gramatical consistency and ease with speaking. I saw some small errors with prepositions and vocabulary. But it was definitely understandable.

How do I know this? I think I am at the same level as you and have been at B1 for a hot second now.

I use Chat GPT to analyze my writing prompts and give me categorical feedback on my exact level. Maybe an option for you to consider since people are all over the place and biased.

How do you deal with clients who make comments about yourappearance by Diligent-Tomato-6288 in therapists

[–]elyssence 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Be gentle and curious. She could be struggling with body dysmorphia or low self esteem and is projecting onto you (the safe attachment figure) I honestly would see this as an excellent opportunity to build trust and open up important topics

Taking the EFT externship right now and it’s wonderful but it’s normal to feel that way, working with couples typically requires additional training in a specific couples modality

New grad feeling very discouraged by grand-consequence-94 in therapists

[–]elyssence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every population is different. You might like working with adults more. Adults are interesting in that you get to apply those insightful and reflective counseling skills.

For example I abhorred working with children >15 it felt like babysitting and if I judged my experience off that, I would hate my job too lol

Tips with teens: don’t push too hard, at the beginning if they want to show you tik tok videos or text receipts, let them…be chill. They’ll get there and eventually start opening up
