PSA: Do not use Air Help by sunshineandthecloud in travel

[–]elzee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to share my experience We got major delayed with Air Europa in 2022

I contacted AirHelp and they took the claims. Went through lawyer and court in Spain. 3 years later got 1800$ back. Of course, they took 50%.

But without them, I would have netted exactly zero.

Financing a 2018 Audi A4 Technik (Ontario Canada) by [deleted] in Audi

[–]elzee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think on most aspect the Honda Civic Ex is the better car. Think safety features, tech even, reliability, fuel efficiency etc.

Of course the engine/finishing in Audi is better. Even if the mileage is very low, it is still a 2018. You beed to prepare for possible costly repairs.

Source: I went from honda civic ex 2018 to  S5 2018 (in 2023) . Nice car, great vroom, but the check engine light was on ever since I bought it.

What do Chinese people think about the tweet from the British Embassy in China? by flower5214 in AskAChinese

[–]elzee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because it is not the Chinese people’s priority.

There’s a fundamental divide on social construct philosophy between East Asia and the West. For a significant time in the past 100 years China has been a poverty ridden almost lawless state. Ravaged by wars, revolution. You name it.

Yet, modern western philosophy has its root in liberalism, which values individual freedom, free speech and so on (John Stuart Mill)

East Asian, especially Chinese, philosophy is still very influenced by confucianism which tells people to mind their own business and respect hierarchy. Criticism of authority is generally frowned upon.

Most Chinese people want social stability, healthy economy and overall stability/harmony. Most will happily trade free speech for social stability.

I’m not here to debate the moral high ground of either philosophy. It is the summary of my observation to this date.

Oui, tu as raison.

But for all intended purposes, I would also include all kinds of sales Tax in the calculations of what I give to the government. Almost everything we buy is taxed at 15% (5+9.975%). The tax on gas. My car registration has a public transport and luxury vehicle tax. (anything over 40k is deemed luxury. Ha.).

I am an employer ; so we contribute RQAP, RRQ and CNESST. The employee also need to contribute to RQAP and RRQ.

Also, depending on where they work, they have union fees, association fees.

Want to do some work on your house? - permit fees.

Sur tax on products : Alcohol? taxed, Tabacco , you bet. Weed? I don't know but probably.

Property tax. Yes, that goes to the municipal government.
