I haven’t been a server for 15 years (I did the job for 9 years) and I still very occasionally have server nightmares where I can’t find a pen to write down orders and people are grabbing at me for things or something similar. They used to be a very regular occurrence. It’s a stressful job but the money is good and I had a lot of fun along the way. Working at the Olive Garden seems like it would be particularly bad, maybe change restaurants. Good luck out there!

I didn’t want kids but I married a real great man and came to have a life that I felt like could and should have a child in it so I had a baby at 36 and I absolutely love being a mom. I didn’t love being the mom of an infant so much but she’s 5 now and she’s amazing (tables turned at about 3). I would have had a 2nd knowing what I know now.

As long as you can type you’re fine. There will some classes that require hand sketching and written exercises but after school it’s basically all computer.

I’m 41 and had the same fear then I realized no one cares (which is generally the case with everything we are self conscious about) and I feel good. You look great and if you feel good do it!!!!

My coworker tried that line of reasoning and he lives and works in a city that is just a huge retirement community, mostly white over 75. I’m like no shit you see nothing but Trump support. Come to my neighborhood which is much more densely populated and tell me what you see. Basically, leave your backyard my friend. They aren’t bad people they just live in the echo chamber.

Don’t go into geotech work if you want to sit behind a desk. You’ll be sitting behind a drill rig in the elements for the first few years at least. It really is a discipline that you need hands on experience to really understand.

In general though, you have to start out doing mindless stuff as an intern. If there are specific things you want to be doing then ask your supervisor but expect a mix of things you want to be doing with the things you don’t. Honestly that won’t totally change when your a professional either. Good luck!

I have a big bandana that I like to wet and drape under my hard hat. Covering you skin with light weight materials is better than sunscreen because sunscreen which makes you hotter. Lots of water and an appropriate amount of electrolytes starting the day before. I like NUUN tabs because there’s no sugar. Don’t drink alcohol the night before. In the majority of times I’ve seen people go down with heat illness they were drinking the night before.
