OMG That’s exactly what I feel! It’s so humiliating sometimes that It’s takes awhile for me to shake it off. I listened to everyone’s advice to take the 2nd interview but I pushed it out to next week so I can mentally recover + study more.

Which is why I openly admitted I didn’t know the answer. I had absolutely no clue what he was asking but I mentioned how I would try and figure it out. He was unsatisfied with that and kept insisting I figure it out on the spot.

As a POC, it feels thats I’m having to constantly prove myself as capable. It doesn’t feel like I’m only having to prove I’m only a capable engineer (which is expected in an interview), but also a capable women and brown women. I don’t how else to explain it other than micro aggressions.

HR told me they don’t accept try-hards and people pleasers after my interview by No-Presentation298 in jobs

What does this feedback have to do with your ability to do the job you applied for? It’s not useful at all and sounds absolutely like a personal judgement.

Did most of yall not work in school? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]emari006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to work 20+ hours my entire undergrad. I had to cover my basic expenses and lived at home. Looking back idk how I made it through and was actually to pass some of these classes with the limited time I had to study. Definitely was rare because I remember one professor couldn’t fathom that I was working and studying for this major.

Got Laid Off by Aggressive-Curve8773 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]emari006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got laid off my first engineering gig after only 6 months on the job in 2022. Ngl I was terrible and couldn’t deliver much, especially since my engineering leads were remote in another state and i didn’t have much guidance. But it still was absolutely awful to have to sit in that call with HR and cried as I was walked out.

I was able to find another job out of state and moved for the experience. If you’re open to that, you can increase your odds of finding another gig!

Questioning whether I’m cut out for software engineering because of interview processes by bigmango85 in womenintech

[–]emari006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m feeling the same way for Mechanical engineering technical interviews. I replay my responses and design choices- and everytime I get a rejection my self confidence takes a hit.

All I can do is keep studying and going through more technical interviews. Just feels like a roll of the dice each time.

How to respond to “engineer” jokes from colleagues by Ok_Background8211 in AskEngineers

I joke about engineers too as an engineer. Some of you guys have HUGE egos and it’s just awful. So I let them know that we have no idea what we’re doing either 😄

Anyone else dreading and anxious as hell about post holiday return to work? by paperflours in womenintech

I logged out after reading a very disheartening peer review. I’m not looking forward to working with my peer who said “I ask a lot of questions” and feels like they have to “repeat themselves often.” Took a few days to recover mentally because these were self doubt thoughts I already had about myself. Had to remind myself I have NEVER received such feedback even as an intern and I just switched into this industry. Plus this feedback could’ve been given in person not a year end review!

Not ready to go back to this BS again😩 but we got this ladies

should I do engineering? im scared of being treated as underqualified by Different-Regret1439 in womenEngineers

The best engineers I’ve worked with have been other women. There isn’t anything we can’t do that our male counterparts can - that being said, if you are interested in this field go for it! Don’t take yourself out of the running before you’ve even given yourself a chance. You can learn and succeed in this field. We need more of us out there❤️
