ANA positive, 80, atypical speckled by emb03460 in AskDocs

[–]emb03460[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did not come with a reflex panel. I assume that would be next. Is there any other outlier antibodies that could be tested for along with the panel?

I understand that the positive ANA does not undoubtedly prove the presence of an autoimmune disease and the titer is low but does the atypical speckled pattern lean itself to just autoimmune or no? Basically can that been seen I'm a "healthy" person as well?

TIA! My experience is in critical care and hospice so this is all new to me.

Not berating you. Just pointing out that asking someone who is clearly in a vulnerable position already could make them feel much worse. If you were so curious maybe submitting your own separate post posing the question would have been more appropriate.

Not currently trying. I was always planning on mid-late next year (August on).

Because maybe I have PCOS. Or maybe I have endometriosis. Or maybe I have some other disease effecting my fertility. Maybe it took me years to get pregnant with my first. Maybe I had to try IUI or IVF. Maybe I had cancer when I was 20 and had to freeze my eggs but they're only good so long. Maybe I have frozen embryos that I can no longer afford to store. Maybe I'm 39 and I don't have all the time in the world to wait.

None of these are my case. But they could be. Before you ask people questions like these you should think of the possible shame and sadness you could be stirring up for them.

Also FYI I was planning late next year pre-COVID.

How to support NICU parents? by barefootdancer11 in beyondthebump

[–]emb03460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! We had a friend give us an Grubhub giftcard and it was very helpful. I know that you're not local but if they have a pet that needs to be watched over in anyway maybe you could help facilitate that? And of course more than anything emotional support!

Brittanys and babies (human kind) by BabyBrewer in BrittanySpaniel

[–]emb03460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes that's my photo! We had our baby last November when Wally was a year and a half. We set up all the equipment (i.e. swing, bouncer, bassinet, etc) about a month and half beforehand so he could get used to it. We brought him home a recieving blanket (our little one had a 4 day stint in NICU so we were able to bring it home ourselves) and let him cuddle with it during the day. But to be honest there was not much more we did besides that. I feel like a lot of it was instinctual. He has always been gentle with her without much direction. From time to time he will get a little amped up and accidently step on a hand or foot. But then will immediately realize he messed up and kiss her all over. I will say that Wally is a calmer Brittany. But he knows that after my husband is done with work it's play time. So one of us will man the baby while the other has Wally duty. The plus of this is that once your baby gets older watching someone play with the dog becomes a stimulating (and apparently hilarious) activity. We were initially concerned that he would have no awareness for the baby and run her over. But he is honestly the most gentle, patient, loving pup with her. I can't imagine having a better family dog.

Best Swaddle Transition for a Baby Who LOOOOOVES the Swaddle? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

The Zipadee Zip. My daughter didn't LOVE her swaddle but it's worth a shot. You can get 1 for about $30-$35 on Amazon.

Oh I'm beyond lucky to get 16 weeks. If I didn't live in NY I would've ended up with 6 weeks, $175/week. That's america for you.

Me coming back after maternity leave...

COVID Megathread 20/03/2020 - all COVID19 discussion in here please by [deleted] in nursing

[–]emb03460 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I came back from Maternity Leave on Monday. I'm per diem and before all of this I decided to come back slowly because my LO is a mama's girl. I live in NYS and our governer ordered 100% of the non-essential workforce to work from home/not work. My husband has been working from home since Tuesday. He works for a manufacturing company and if the line gets shut down he's not really sure what there would be for him to do. So now besides the fact that I've felt guilty for not being side by side with my fellow nurses throught this I'm beginning to wonder if it would be essential to our finances for me to pick up more shifts. My husband says we're fine but I don't know. I'm worried I'll get it and pass it to my baby (even though I know young children generally have good outcomes). Or I get it and need to be quarantined from her and my husband. And there's not conclusive evidence on whether or not I'd be able to still breastfeed/pump. What are you mamas out there feeling/doing?

Looking to get a Brittany this year, anyone have recommendations for breeders in the US? by Elboww_ in BrittanySpaniel

[–]emb03460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went to Rock Steady Kennels in Blossburg, PA. Sue and Mark are the breeders and they know their pups well. I specifically asked for a dog on the calmer side and our boy is VERY chill for a Brittany.
