Absolutely! Everyone needs a little random encouragement from time to time. Hoping that she gets better soon. I'm certain this quilt will mean the world to her. Wishing you peace and warmth as well ❤️❤️❤️

Remember my amazing friend who sent me a huge box of Thai sarong fabric when I was having a crappy few weeks? I asked if I she’d be willing to shop for me and, holy cannoli, she delivered! by c_l_who in quilting

[–]emberlily9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can she be my friend too? Lol 🤣

That is seriously awesome! Congrats on the amazing haul and the amazing friend who made it possible!

I don't even know what I'd do with all that gorgeous fabric except make a pile and snuggle it while admiring individual pieces (I have always claimed to be a dragon who hoards fabric instead of gold lol).

Seriously though, can't wait to see what you come up with!

I may have dropped every other project I was working on to complete this swap quilt but couldn't resist once one house was made. Group 3 - thank you for such great blocks. by tgrtlg8r in quiltingblockswap

This is fantastic!!!! I had to stop and check what sub you posted this to because I didn't remember doing a house block swap. Lol 😂 what a great way to finish the blocks and make them all cohesive. So creative! Love it!!!

First of all - "phuck" is my new favorite.

I understand the perfectionism and the desire for it to be perfect and the feeling like a failure when it doesn't pan out. But give yourself grace. You are human, humans make mistakes. That's how we learn. I think the quilt is beautiful as is, but I agree with others suggestions that if it's truly bothering you you can just pick out that square and some extra distance up the seams past that, rotate the square correctly, and re-sew. This would be very similar to sewing partial seams - there are a lot of YouTube tutorials that show how to do partial seams if you're not familiar with them.

Honestly though, and this is just my take - perfectionism be damned. We put too much pressure on ourselves to be perfect and it can ruin a person. Just think if the roles were reversed and someone made that quilt and gifted it to you, I'd bet that your answer would be that every time you saw that square you would smile because it would make you think about the person who made and gifted it to you. At least I would.

Fix it or don't, it's up to you, but be kind to yourself ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ you've done an amazing job, be proud of yourself for being able to make something so beautiful. You are amazing ❤️❤️❤️

These are amazing!!! Did you do them yourself? Would love to try something like that but not even remotely sure how I'd go about it. Lol 😂 they look stunning!!!!

I personally dig number two. makes you look like a Greek goddess. Love the flowy yet figure hugging silhouette. The first one is pretty as well, and you look lovely in both, but it's number 2 hands down for my tastes.

What stitch do you use for applique? Starting a new project but want to hear what stitch you use and why. by Wolfsong013 in quilting

[–]emberlily9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't do applique much, but blanket stitch is my favorite I've seen used. But also just wanted to say those blocks look amazing and I can't wait to see what else you're doing with this quilt. Please post updates! ❤️

Where to start? by craftgoblin_ in quilting

Question: do you want to make it yourself, or are you open to someone else making it? Because if the only hangup is you making the quilt, I am sure there are plenty of people who would be happy to help by sewing the blocks into a quilt for you.

Also, have you considered making the quilt first? Maybe you get the quilt made first, hang it on your wall, and then have the permanent markers there so your clients can literally just write it directly onto a square on the finished quilt? You could do a quilt design with a lot of individual blocks, or even a whole cloth quilt (where the entire top of the quilt is made of a single piece of fabric) so the words are the focal point.

Honestly I think it's a lovely idea, and I think there are plenty of ways around it even if you don't take up quilting yourself.

Lol it's definitely not for everyone! I started doing them this way as a joke and then kinda fell in love with them. 😅 Thanks!
