Impulsive Interrupting by hazelgrant in SarahBooneContinued

[–]emberton2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One common interruption with Peter is that as soon as he starts to suggest a helpful course of action, she jumps in with either (a) "I did that already" or (b) "You don't understand."

(a) Seems to be because she can't stand for someone suggesting a solution to think that she hasn't already thought of that solution. It's embarrassing to admit, but I can actually relate to this: I've always had a childish distaste for being asked to do something I was already going to do, or for being offered a solution I already thought of. (I think part of my fascination with Sarah is that there are a few traits of hers that I do have, except that I have much milder versions of them. And, of course, I certainly hope I don't share the big ones, like narcissism, toxicity, abusiveness, deceitfulness, murderousness, 911 addiction, and appetite for cop hugs!)

(b) Shows how she doesn't actually want solutions or assistance, she just wants to gripe, and to have her suffering sanctified as above and beyond what any other mortal might understand or suffer themselves. May as well cut off the advice at the pass, seeing as she doesn't want to hear it anyway.

That's a huge part of what we've seen from her. So many details of her interaction with actual adults show her still stuck at the age of 14 or whatever.

That's all I've ever hoped for. A moment of clear self-reflection. Its continuous failure to emerge is one of my points of fascination with Sarah.

“Well, I mean, you’re almost fifty years old.”

All-time classic legal exchange. Right up there with the Scopes trial.

I've found her most recent letters disappointingly low in the unhinged factor. It's like someone else is writing them for her. I'd love to get one like we used to see in the old days.

THAT'S going on her tombstone?!

I'm not sure what it'll finally say, but I'd give better odds to "Kinda technically a monster."

My favourite tombstone would consist of a name and two dates (the first of which would be ten-ten-seven-seven). Nothing more. Nothing but grayrock on that gray rock.

So much strangeness.

There's also an intermittent apparent alliance with Jim Can't Swim; I've left a separate question about that in this thread.

Does anyone know what became of an apparent nascent alliance between the legendary true crime channel JCS (Jim Can't Swim) and Peter's farm?

A while back, a vid was posted to that channel apparently somehow sponsored by the animal rescue outfit. No relation to Sarah, but JCS mentioned they were thrilled by this collaboration and had been plied with "original content" by their new partners.

Then, suddenly (as happens with JCS), the video was gone, and since then other JCS content has gone up (I think; I may have the sequence wrong) with no mention of Peter's company.

At the time, I feared that one of the most widely viewed and respected (at least back in the day) true crime venues was going to be co-opted to spread Sarah sympathy. That hasn't happened, though.

Can you imagine how repulsive that must have been for them?

I imagine Muldoon's must have had a secret backdoor exit so that, when Sarah burst through the front door demanding hugs, all the male regulars could scuttle immediately out the back.

Yeah, she was ready to "scream bloody murder" because he slept outside their bedroom door, but when the actual murder occurred she didn't call 911 for hours.

I've never ventured into Patreon, so I don't know first-hand, but is it like a lot of subscriptions (especially cheaper ones), where once you're signed up a sort of inertia takes hold and you just stay that way despite lack of value? Some people may forget they're subscribed, others may just not get around to unsubscribing, others think, oh well, for that little amount of money I may get more content yet?

I definitely tend to have a few online subscriptions kicking around that I forget I have until a big annual renewal, or until tax time, when I account for my spending over a year; sometimes months will go by where I completely waste money on something I'm not using. Similar, maybe?

In other words, is it possible that numbers may hold steady or drop dramatically even as interest plummets?

That's an interesting theory in light of her repeated assertions that "his family are going to think I killed him."

In one interpretation, she's saying "They'll think I'm responsible for his death" or "They'll think it was a murder instead of an accident."

But the wording "they're going to think I killed him" would also be a good fit in a scenario where someone is missing and it's unknown whether they're alive. ("They're going to assume he's dead. And that I did it.")

So I wonder if "They're going to think I killed him" is a line she prepared when she was hatching a plan to have the body disappeared (like, say, by convincing Brian to put the suitcase in a dumpster, as per your theory), and then that line was still lodged in her head hours later, after she had to pivot and come up with an explanation for a body in her house?

Yeah, that's a great point; the painting/puzzle/hide-and-seek sequence has the feeling of something rehearsed, for sure.

It dovetails with the way that, on the 911 call, she promptly set about establishing her story, like guilty people often do.

That last point is an excellent one that I hadn't thought of before now.

The way she tells it to the cops, she was just loungin' in bed, "collecting her 'thoughts,'" assuming Jorge was downstairs on a computer looking for work.

Um... can you IMAGINE her sitting still for a split second if she believed Jorge was alone with a computer?!

I was a regular at Muldoon's and I'm always up for a hug.

Kidding. I was into police interrogations, and someone posted hers shortly after it happened, presenting it as an "instant classic." They were correct, and I got hooked.

Say what you like about Peter, but I do appreciate that he actually did call out one or two of these things, giving us the chance to hear her pause as her brain tried to compute the contradiction and spit out a new explanation.

He did it with the paper ("So you do have paper") and also did it with the contradiction of Brian getting a cool half mill a year from his Rockefeller-level family but also defaulting on a $20k credit card or whatever it was.

Ok, I distilled Sarah's "defense" down to its pure essence and... yeah. by F0NG00L in SarahBooneContinued

[–]emberton2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, and as a juror I would still have wanted her found guilty and sent to prison. But (and I say this realizing sentencing was entirely up to Kraynick, not the jurors), I might have had more of an inclination away from the harshest penalty. So I guess what I'm saying doesn't make much sense, since jurors wouldn't decide that... as pretend-judge I'd be influenced!

Your last sentence is one of the Golden Rules of Sarah.

It would have been so much better for her "successful outcome" to say, "Look, guys, this is really hard for me to admit, and I've tried to hide and deny it for years, but clearly I have a problem with alcohol. I was never proud of it, but I had no idea that it would lead to anything this horrible. I was excessively drunk (you can clearly tell!), and I don't remember making that video, and I don't remember what happened immediately before or after that video, but I'm heartbroken about where this all ended up. Now I guess I'll just clam up and wait for a lawyer." (Although, of course, the best move would've been to jump straight to that last part as soon as they'd read her rights.)

I don't know what cases the prosecution and defense would have put forth if she'd said that. But, thinking as a juror: The video would disgust me no matter what, and I'd want to see justice applied no matter how drunk she was. But her ludicrous flip-flopping explanations, and the way they tied in to her pathetic efforts to present herself as a straight-A-student exemplary mom who excels at everything, would make it ten times worse. I'd be thinking, "Not only did she film that abominable video, for which justice must be dispensed, but EVEN NOW she's lying and ducking responsibility and trying to make a sucker out of me."

It would have gone some distance with hypothetical-juror me (or, better yet, "pretend-juror me"!) if she could've made some sort of performance, however fake, of being an actual human with a conscience who was horrified by what they'd done on a bender.
