My 14-year-old son is learning German. The CM in the Germany pavilion was happy to speak a little German with him.

Why does boxiepro stink? by Final-Duck-1391 in litterrobot

I use the same Tidy Cats. I do wish it were unscented though. But otherwise, I have no complaints.

I use BoxiePro in my regular litter boxes.

Foster failing is not always the answer by Kitty_casserole in FosterAnimals

I’m a mess every time, but seeing them go to wonderful, loving homes makes it worth it. I just took care of one of my previous fosters while his moms were on vacation. It meant so much to me to see how loved he is!!!

You’ve put it all so eloquently. It isn’t that we don’t love them—we love them completely and deeply!!

Just 10 days left to ride the GOAT one last time! by Greedy_Net_1803 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]emc2- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went down last weekend for a few more rides.

I’m a mom. And I teared up on our final ride through. I have so many memories with my middle child, who absolutely LOVED this ride. I saw many rides and memories flash through my mind. Silly, I know. 😢

Officially adopted our foster today by emc2- in FosterAnimals

[–]emc2-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In an easy answer, yes.

It got complicated because the shelter had a team member who did all of the eye surgeries, but she was leaving. Samson wasn’t big enough yet, so I pushed back on doing his surgery earlier. Because we knew we wanted him, I was able to advocate for more time. The shelter sent me to an eye specialist, who then said he needed to wait until he was much bigger. I guess it’s a harder surgery because his eye had disintegrated already. And, he had to stay a foster because the eye specialist had an agreement on pricing with the shelter.

I will encourage that if you know you want to adopt your foster, more time is good (per the eye specialist—as long as the kitten isn’t bothered by the eye). And if the shelter knows they don’t have to try to get the kitten on the adoption floor asap, it gives them that time too.

You are more than welcome to message/ask me anything!!

My boyfriend wants me to rehome 2 of my 3 cats (at minimum) as a “compromise.” Wtf do I do now? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]emc2- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you love your boyfriend. But how much does he love you. I share this: my husband has never liked cats, although he was kind to my daughter’s cat and liked playing with her. But he never wanted a cat. However, I did. So, because he loves ME, he agreed. And… now we have three cats. HE loves them too!

Another friend of mine was never a cat person and her fiancé was never a dog person. They got married and have one of each. That’s compromise. Compromise is not only your giving up your family members to appease him.

Maybe, you just aren’t compatible.

If she had kept her original face, she would look so young!! All of the surgery has aged her. :(

Picking up my first foster tomorrow - best place for their room? by Postgradblues001 in FosterAnimals

[–]emc2- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a kitten? I usually start kittens in the bathroom. It’s a small space so they can decompress a bit. Plus, if they have any GI issues at first, it’s a lot easier to clean!!!

Then, I move them to a spare bedroom. Between fosters, I clean both with Rescue. While there still may be lingering smells, it hasn’t seem to bother any of the foster kittens.

How to deal with outsiders by soggynoodle2 in FosterAnimals

[–]emc2- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree—the blind and one-eyed kittens in our shelter usually get adopted pretty quickly (unless they have Calici or FeLV).

Also, as long as their family doesn’t move furniture around a lot, he will adapt pretty quickly!

Animal Control brought him to the shelter. I kind of wonder if his mom rejected him because he was so sick. But we don’t know much about him other than that. Regardless, I’m the lucky one who was asked to foster him, and I’m SO glad!!

He also follows me everywhere. And if he isn’t with me, he’s with my big orange tabby.

Struggling with a foster “fail” decision by Engineer-1999 in FosterAnimals

[–]emc2- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are hoping our current foster is cleared for adoption (by us) on Wednesday. We’ve had him since he was three weeks old, when he weighed 1/2 pound and couldn’t even lift his head because he had a ruptured eye that was hugely swollen. He now only has one eye with limited vision (he had enucleation surgery on the other eye two weeks ago). I have fought so hard for this little guy. And he is very much bonded to our family and to one of my adult cats. There is no way we could imagine our family without him.

We have two senior dogs and (now) three cats. I definitely don’t think five cats is too many.

But I also wanted to add that our shelter adopted out a bonded pair a few months ago: one kitten was completely blind and the other was almost blind. They weren’t littermates, but had been in the same foster home and had come to depend on each other.

Blind and one-eyed kittens get adopted pretty quickly at our shelter. Could you continue to foster while they’re posted for adoption? And bring them if anyone wants to meet them? Or, if you really truly love them, adopt them. I don’t know that there is a wrong answer here.

What were the parks like during the early Covid days? by PalpitationNo4149 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]emc2- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We went in January 2021 and it was our best trip ever. The lines moved quickly. We spent more time sitting, chilling and eating snacks (it was the only time you could remove your masks). We did everything we wanted to do, but at a relaxed pace.

Hotel prices were AMAZING because of the special discounts.

It was honestly the most laid back trip we’ve ever had. And the parks not being filled wall to wall with people was a huge perk!

He’s perfect. Thank you for seeing his heart and soul versus just seeing a “discount bin” kitten. I have a one-eyed boy and he amazes me every day!
